Marker lights nearly cause fire

Just thought we would put out this warning. We bought our trailer in March of 2022. It is a Forest River 27RK, brand new. Here in Prince Edward Island Canada we need to have our trailer Safety Inspected every year.  We always think it is just a money grab from the Provincial Government, but were never so happy to have it done then last year. When doing the safety inspection last year they noticed one of our marker lights was flickering. The mechanic removed the marker light to replace it and noticed that it was a short in the wire, and there was some charred wood around the hole where the wire came through. He also stated that the hole wasn't made with the appropriate tool, that it looked like someone just used a hammer to smash a hole to feed the wires. He strongly believed that if he hadn't have noticed this that the trailer would have caught fire driving down the road. Since this time we have prepared a total safety checklist that we use every time we prepare to travel with the trailer, whether we have been stopped one night or 15 nights. We take our time doing this and make sure every light is solid and fully functional. Just thought I would share.
