Max Tow F150s
How can I identify a Max Tow F150 by decoding the VIN? I'll be replacing my 2012 F150 with a newer one in the next 6 months or so. I'd like the heavier duty package when I do. But how does Ford identify it? Thanks.

- It will be listed as option 53C on the window sticker when new. There are sites that you can join that will show you the window sticker after inputting a VIN number.
If looking at used trucks on a lot or private party a MaxTow f150 will have a weight rating sticker on the hitch and it will show 12,000 pounds or greater. Any other figure is a regular f150. - The heaviest is the F150HD at 7850 gvwr and 4800 rawr.
Lower GVWR /RAWR packages also have the max tow package depending on year models so pay attention to the gvwr/rawr packages.

My 2017 window sticker says "MAX TRAILER TOW PACKAGE," but it doesn't say "53C."- In addition to max. tow pay attention to max payload. In a lot of cases the limiting factor is the max. payload rather than max. tow.
- To the OP.. What year are you looking for? Lots of variation depending on the year.. Especially with the intro to the aluminum 2015..
My 2013 is Max Tow with #7700 GVWR and #4050 rear GAWR.
Max Payload F150's thru 2014 will have 7 lug wheels and #8200 GVWR.
After 2014 the Max Tow and Max Payload numbers changed and I have not really kept up on them, since it'll be a long time before I get rid of my current rig.. :)
