I had mentioned the issue with my Rockwood in the "My TT, love hate relationship" post.
So here is the story. I had noticed that when I pulled out from my house I saw water leaking out of the back side just above the rear bumper. When we got to our camp site, I checked for any leaks but did not see any. I then checked my gauges and saw that I was only at 2/3's full of fresh water and I had filled the tank before leaving. So I knew I had a problem. We camped for the 4 days and had to add water. As we were leaving, I checked my mirrors and saw water pouring out from under the trailer. I pulled over and water was coming from every seam under the trailer. I figured that my fresh water tank had a leak.
I had remembered that when I was filling with water, I had heard a lot popping sound. Didn't think much of it because of where we live. After getting home, I called the dealer and made arrangements to take it to them. They are located over 200 miles away. I took off my carrier that I had on the back bumper. I carry a Honda 2000 generator and a few pieces of firewood. So not very much for weight. As I was taking the carrier off I noticed that the arms on the rear stabilizer was bent out. I had figured that the stabilizer may have been the popping sound that I had heard before leaving. I knew that what I had on the carrier was not enough weight to cause this to happen. As I was cleaning out my trailer, I also found that the rear door would not open without a lot of force. Once open, I could not get it closed without beating on it.
Here is what the dealer told me that the extended warranty adjuster figured happen. He said that I had over loaded the trailer/carrier which caused the stabilizer to bend. He also said that I had been hanging on my rear door to cause the door frame to bend and the door not to work anymore. Neither of these is covered by by extended coverage. I am 52 years old and would have no reason to hang on the door. They are going to replace the water tank, but I have to pay over $100.00 to have it shipped in. The other items, I turned into my insurance company to get it fixed.
I had asked if the water leaking into the underbelly of the trailer could have caused the stabilizer to bend and one of the service folks said yes, and the other said that not enough water could have gotten in there before leaking out from the seams. He told me that I am not supposed to have the stabilizers down when filling my fresh water tank. He also said that I was probally jumping around in the back of the trailer which would have put stress on the stabilizer.
I had asked the service manager at the dealership that if when the jack had popped, if the the door frame could have flexed enough to cause it not to open/close. Given that the stabilizer is right next to the door making that area a weak point. He said no way and that it appears that I had hit a tree causing the hinges to bend. I don't ever recall hitting anything. He saw some scratches on the side of the trailer. I also asked that if the water tank could have popped at the same time. Again, no. Funny thing is that this all happened at the same time from what I can tell.
This trailer has been into the dealer for warranty work for a total of about 11 months either waiting for parts or approval to fix. We just made our 24th payment on in July. The first time, they did not get one of the part's in before I picked it up to go camping after waiting from October to March. They ended up sending me the part and I had to install it. The next time, again it sat from October to March the following year to fix the rubber on the slide. They only fixed the rubber on the slide and not the trailer. Again, not a complete fix. The only nice thing about the time frame is that they stored it for me over the winter months.
So I have lost faith in Forset River products and the dealership them self. Once fixed, this trailer will be gone for good.
May there always be a special prayer said daily for our troops and their familys. In loving memory of SPC. James R. Wolf my nephew who died Nov 6, 2003 in Iraq while serving his country.
