MPG with late model Ram 3500 with 4:10 carrying TC.
I’m tempted by some great deals on new Rams. Primarily used to carry a larger TC to travel.
I can get a 2018 Ram 3500 DRW Laramie 4x4 with Aisin trans for just under $52k. That’s a little over $16k off sticker.
Many guys recommend he 3:42 as the load isn’t that much and better mpg unloaded.
My srw with a light weight TC did great but would Shift into 5th more than I would have thought. MPG was around 11-12 as there is a lot of wind resistance.
I’m thinking with a 5k lb plus TC and towing a Jeep or light trailer, a DRW with 4:10 running about 65 mph would just be loafing along and probably get about the same mpg and have less shifting and strain on the drive train.
I expect around 15 mpg unloaded but not that concerned as I would be carrying the TC most of the time.
Those running this setup what are you getting for mileage and your opinions on gearing.
Also, I really don’t like all the bells and whistles of the Laramie and can get an SLT with the options I want for around $3200 less.
The Laramie is a better deal but is it worth it?
