The pan gasket in the trans of my 07 Ram 2500 CTD is starting to leak, so I figured now would be a good time to put a towing specific valve body in it. It has around 20k on it since a full rebuild to stock, so shifts fine now, but want to help it live longer. There are several different brands out there, but not sure which one to go. Thanks for any advice.

I have the TransGo kit in mine. Been in the truck for 2yrs now.I got it to remedy my 2-3-2-3 shift flutter under light throttle that is partially caused by the addition of my Edge chip. It did resolve the issue. I didn't drill the extra holes for the fast converter lockup. The valve body is easy to remove. If I were to do it again, I might go with the Revmax or other, but I wasn't willing to spend that amount at the time.

Thanks, yep they are a bit pricey and just trying to get the best one for my $$$. I have read bad things about ATS, but BD is on my list along with Suncoast, Firepunk, Revmax, Gorend, TRE and a couple others. I can't decide what I want for lunch, let alone a $500-$700 valve body. :p

For my own information: Are you considering this to fix a problem or as an upgrade for towing? What difference can you expect over a stock valve body, transmission longevity, tighter shifts, more efficiency. Would a person with a nicely functioning stock transmission that tows 10k benefit from a new valve body? Thanks for any feedback.

I had a 48re in my last Dodge. I rebuilt it with the transgo kit. It worked ok. If I was going to buy a pre made valve body I think k gorend is what I would go with. They will all be relatively similar.

Firepunk is hard to go wrong with.
I searched high and low far and wide and can't find anyone at all with anything bad to say about them, and they run a very successful race truck too. The guys who do that know what works and what breaks better than anyone.

Durb, I consider upgrading the 47re/48re absolutely mandatory. A better valvebody will increase the transmission's internal line pressure which makes the shifts firmer. Slippage = wear and inefficiency.
More pressure also makes the lockup clutch hold better. That is mandatory if you upgrade to an aftermarket "billet" torque converter, the stock pressure is inadequate.
Firepunk can set you up with a valvebody that will flow trans fluid while in Park. The stock trans doesn't! And not all valvebodies correct this.
The stock transmissions in the old Dodges have the potential to be extremely stout, but they're lacking in a few key areas as delivered by the factory.

Like I said in the OP, the truck has a fresh trans in it now, and works as it should. Just trying to do a little upgrading for towing to keep heat down and shift points optimum since I have to change the pan gasket anyway. I'm hoping to get answers to your other questions as well.
