Need input on tow vehicle

I am getting a 2013 Outback 298re that is dry weight at 7400lbs and with our stuff will be around 8500lbs. I am looking at used trucks and have found one I like but want to get real world opinions. I don't have the funds for a diesel right now. The truck is a 2007 3500 classic with the 6.0l gas engine and 4.10 ratio in the rear. It can clearly take the payload but want to know about its ability to tow this rig well. Thanks everyone for any input you can offer.
  • Truck will do fine. We had a 2011 2500HD 6.0 with 3.73 pulling a 2011 Jayco 26BH and it did wonderful. I do love our diesel now though and unless something drastic happens will stick with a diesel for pulling.
  • That should be a great truck for that. Our 2015 Chevy 3500 work truck has a 6.0. It weighs about 9,000. I added a 9,000 pound trailer and it towed well up and down the interstate.

    Ditto.

I had a 2002 version of the same truck and it did fine with my heavy Desert Fox toy hauler. Going up mountain passes in Washington was slow going, but I wasn't in a rush to get anywhere.

Empty fuel economy wasn't great - I used to get about 12mpg daily driving it (no freeway, all city)
