I have been truckless for a little while but was looking at a Suburban 2500 that I passed on but found a 2011 Ram 2500 crew cab long bed diesel with 210k miles. I wanted to know what are some of the benefits and issues with this year?Should I be worried about the miles? I briefly had a 2014 crew cab drw that ran great and got good mpgs on the highway that impressed me. I believe the 2011 has a different emission system so wanted to know what changes to expect.Thanks

Thats a lot of miles on a 6 year old truck. Was it a hotshot truck? The motor is good for 500K miles, but everything else will need work before that.

The 2011 doesn't have DEF, so your fuel mileage will be lower. They rely much more on EGR for emissions, resulting in dirtier oil. That means shorter oil change intervals and shorter intervals for other items, such as crankcase filter and EGR cleaning. I also believe it has a little lower power ratings that the 2014. It also has the older frame design than the 2014.That doesn't make it a bad truck, but those are things to consider when you start negotiating price.

I think in 2011.5 they increased the power ratings.As mentioned, I think the biggest downside of that model is going to be the MPG. If you look them up on fuelly, they have tracked about 1,200,000 miles. Average MPG is 14.0. If you look at a 2014, they have tracked 3,260,000 miles, and average MPG is 15.7. Percentage wise, that is a pretty big jump.I have a 2012. Same engine as the 2011. It has been very reliable, but I only have around 70,000 miles. Overall, I am very happy with the truck.

My 2011 has nearly 300k miles. Not one rattle or squeek. It all depends on how it was maintained. I ditched the emission system.

Benefits? It's a tried and true vehicle. Can read all day about them if you want.
Benefit, it looks like your 2014 in and out (mostly)
Downside, but not necessarily bad, the chassis dates back to 03 and the drivetrain to 07.

If the emissions are still in tact and haven't been rePlaced I'd be skeptical of the dpf not lasting much longer.
Otherwise it's got 200k. Buy it accordingly.

I just traded a 2011 2500 for a 15 dually. Mine had 110000 on it, most pulling 5th wheel. Gave good service.

How was it maintained? That will be the determining factor. If you cannot determine the maintenance history, RUN!!
