2011 Ram 2500 6.7 tow capacity?

You guys forget the write-up with pics that ib516 did a while back showing a comparison with his Ram 2500 and a buddy's 3500 hooked to the same 5th wheel?
The rear squat was the same between the two.

Actually Chris Ford did do something similar in 1998... but I wouldn't expect you to know such facts.

If you are referring to the Expedition offering, internet search seem to indicate that it was not that good of a system. Like our Buick Rainier with rear air, it appears the best solution was to replace the air bags with coil springs. BTW our 2004 Buick is still riding on its OEM air bags with only 65K on the clock.

No... I'm referring to the F250 and more specific the LD version.

I didn't even know ford tried air ride on the ole 7 lug F200!
Must've been a one n done. Try to pull a few customers from the other mfgs the year they forgot to make a HD pickup.

Update! Ended up buying a 12' Ram 3500 with H.O. Cummins. No air bags.

I was caught in the middle ground for 14 years with my 2001.5 RAM 2500 that had a 6084 rear GAWR with LT245/75R16E listed on the placard even though it came OEM with the optional LT265/75R16E making the rear axle capable of 6830. Ram use to make the trucks identical except for the rear leaf springs. One could order the 3500 springs and they would bolt in place of the 2500 springs. Now RAM has taken the rear suspensions to for different directions depending on how then are ordered. The 2 2500 options are quit different from the two 3500 options. Chris

Well the OP was asking about a 2011 2500, so Same, Same, except for the springs.

It never ceases to amaze me when we have members that have hauled 5er's over GVWR with a 2500/250 and said how well it did the job, and now have 3500's and are at/or slightly over rear axle rating. Pick on those of us with 2500's that are only exceeding the Class 2 limited GVWR.

Same truck as the OP describes can have over 7klbs rawr based on the weak link of tires, right off the dealer lot. Up that again by a couple thousand pounds if you add 2 more rear tires and some more spring rate....factory.

One of these days, I'd like to see what all the weight police on here used to pull or haul back in the day when a 390 or 454, 3 speed auto, drum brakes truck with 16.5 rims and bias tires was all you could get.

Grit dog, how about a '61 Dodge 1 ton with a 225 cid slant six with a 16K tag loaded with wheat. Scales says 16k with 154 bushels on it. I done it more than once from field to elevator.

Jon, I have no doubt you have and that's what I'm talking about. As long as you don't think that any newer pickup with a rear axle good for 10klbs isn't overloaded with 2500lbs in the bed because the sticker says it's rated for 2300lbs payload!

Forgot...springs in parallel are additive (if same type,rating,etc) and springs in series have the rating of the lowest in the stack...

Putting one 100 lb rated & 150 lbs springs in parallel will have 250 lbs of capacity

Putting one 100 lb rated & 150 lb springs in series will have 100 lbs of capacity...until the 100lb Spring is totally compressed on a solid axle tube or some such...then the 150 lb spring will become the capacity
