Thanks everyone for their input. I did receive the truck but it had more issues than I had hoped for. It was a one owner fleet vehicle from OK but when I put it in D the trans starts out in 4th gear and although engine runs good (haven't driven it) it has 15...yes fifteen codes!!! About half are transmission and the other half seem to be sensor related. I do like "projects" but this one is more than what I had hoped for lol!
I gotta borrow my buddies F350 and tow this into a shop to diagnose what is wrong. In the meanwhile I am contemplating Dodge or an independent shop. I know with Fords most independent shops have the factory IDS software and were more versed with the Powerstroke issues (than dealer) but I am still new with Dodge/Cummins. The last Ram I had I took to dealer because it had 5 recalls that I wanted done with the repairs. I am wondering would the dealer have more computer software tools and/or expertise to diagnose and troubleshoot?
This being a fleet maintained I doubt that the driver kept driving it while truck racked up code after code. I am wondering if it had some sort of electrical issues with harness, ECM or module that caused all the issues at once or is that wishful thinking?
