New to Me Chevy Tahoe

Hey Everyone,

My wife and I picked up a new to us 2011 Tahoe today. We are pretty excited about this one.

Here are the nerdy specs
  • 2011 Tahoe
  • 5.3l V8
  • 6 Speed Transmission
  • 3.08 rear axle
  • 116k miles
  • 2wd (I’ve been looking for years for a good 2wd, they are scarce because most people want a 4x4 or the 2wd are worn out from use)
  • About 1550 lbs of payload
  • 5,500 lbs tow rating
  • IMMACULATE leather interior (minus the broken dash)
  • Runs like a scalded dog

Towing in the future? Probably. A fishing boat for sure. A Travel Trailer? Maybe a small one. I am not really interested in towing a 32 ft TT with this.

Anyway, here is a pic of me and the new to us Tahoe. Looks pretty snazzy

Thanks!

Thank you!

Also, as to the cylinder deactivation, I will check on that for sure. I thought that was a 2015 and up addition but I will make sure it doesn’t apply to my 2011.

Thanks!

Jeremiah

I believe it started in 2007 with the new body style. My 2011 Silverado had it, I picked up a Diablo tuner to deactivate mine. Down there in the little menu thing on the dash there is an instant economy display that shows when its running in V4 or V8 mode. You will have to scroll through the options to find it.

Oh and congrats, nice ride!

Thank you! Yes I see it! Thank you. I will look in to turning this feature off.

Thanks!

Congratulations! We picked up a 2001 Yukon from the original owner last December and we love it too! It has 265 kms or just over 160k miles and the 5.3L runs great.

The cylinder deactivation started in 2007 if memory serves.

Make sure you get a chip to take the cylinder deactivation out! My wife's had that and it starved the cylinder on the left bank of oil and had to rebuild the engine.

+1. The easy (expensive way), get the delete chip from Range and plug it into the OBD port or do it the cheap way and unplug the vacuum modulatiion sensor on the power brake booster I did it the cheap way. That sensor sends a signal to the ECM to initiate deactivation.

In theory a great design but the engineers didn't look down the road at what it does to an engine long term. GM is good for not looking at the long term impacts of gimmicks.

Oh and the dash deal is common. I ordered a dash cover that glued down over the current dash. Works well on mine. Regardless Congrats man! Glad to see u get something really nice!

I agree get the chip to stop the cylinder deactivation. I think range is the name. There is one that increases the cylinder deactivation and one that stops it. Make sure to get the one that stops it.
