We are updating our tt. We currently own a 24' Coachman. We are planning a trip to Alaska and we usually stay in state parks or federal parks. What is the suggested best length in your experience.Thank you.

Not sure there is any best length for a trailer. I've had just as much fun in some of the smaller trailers 17 feet ad up, as I've had in my 34 footer. Not really much difference other than the ability to spread out. IN about 80,000 towing miles I've only been asked to leave one campground (after getting set up and ready to pay) and my preference is disburssed camping in NFS, BLM etc. areas. Most any size will work for nearly any situation.

I have a 25' class TT... which is actually a 27' in real world terms. Some places I have been to have had a tight squeeze.I have yet to stay at a National Park GC, But from what I hear (mainly on this site), anything longer than a 30' overall is beginning to limit your options. I am sure a fellow poster with more exp, can elaborate further for you.If you do take a trip to Alaska, we expect some pictures of your trip posted for us to see. :-) Good luck and SAFE travels.

I have a 34' Avion and it is a wonderful trailer. I really enjoy using it, but I haven't pulled it in about 4 or 5 years. Now, I only use my C-11 camper on a trailer because I can take it off road. It really depends on what you are doing with it.

My sister's family has a 26 foot TT and they have towed it from coast to coast, over the Rockies, several times. They pull it with a diesel Dodge truck. They tell me that they think it's the best combination of roominess and towability along with getting it in pretty much every camp ground. They think that the overkill on the tow vehicle takes any stress out of towing as they barely feel that trailer back there.

22 ft - walk around queen, bath in the rear with a corner shower, dinette in the slide. I think it is perfect for 2 people. We spend most of our time outside and use the trailer for sleeping. I think you have to decide how you will use the trailer. How many people you typically entertain will also play a part. The best thing about the 22 ft is the ease of pulling, backing, and parking.

For my family, if it were just my wife and me, then shorter is okay. A 25' with a slide is more than enough room for us. We, however, have two teens (son and daughter), as well as one or more of their friends camping with us. Especially on rainy days, we all need our space. In other words, they don't make TT's long enough or wide enough for us. We settled for 31'6".

We have been to Alaska and as far as I am concerned I would stay with the size that you have.

rather than starting with length we found a floorplan we liked and then looked at how it would fit our travel plans. Yes, it's long, (35' overall), yes there are campgrounds we can no longer get to, but we decided to go with it anyway.

After 2 years of traveling, close to 15K miles of adventures, almost 200 days living in the trailer, we still love the trailer and haven't found another one we would trade it for. We just check ahead on campgrounds and while our first choice hasn't always worked out, we have always been able to find a campground that is close enough to where we want to be to enjoy it. And, our preference is remote sites, no hookups.

So, look at floorplans you like first then size considerations, not the other way around.

This question is great cuz you really see the spectrum. I'm sure there are those that see us (2 parents, 2 kids, 2 dogs large and medium sized) exit our TT in the morning they'd think we're nuts as our box is only 17.5', 20 overall. Buts its worked well for many years. Most of our livin is done outside the TT, only sleeping & storing food n clothes inside not to mention the nighttime potty trip. As someone said, personal preference.
