I have a 13,500 Carrier, and it runs just fine on 20 amps. With nothing else running.

You CAN NOT use a light weight orange extension cord!

If it is not tripping the 15A breaker in the house, a 30A service will not help.

What is the size of the conductors in your extension cord? Should be at least 14ga, preferably 12 ga.

Can you measure the voltage at the AC as you start it?

You can also add a hard start capacitor.

Don't think of an AC circuit as how much it will supply, think how much can be pulled before the breaker trips. Your AC is not drawing enough to trip a 15 amp breaker. It won't draw any more current even if it were on a 30 amp circuit. I believe, like the others, that since you obviously have voltage to the Air Conditioner, and the fan works, then the only reason you're not getting cold is a fault of the unit itself. Most probably a Freon like, as others have said.

With respect, you may try reading the posts. Many responses, including mine, stated that the A/C would run but the compressor would not start to cool. In other words it would "run" but not cool.

If the compressor runs and the unit is properly charged, it will cool. Compressors have one speed.. Period.. They do not run at a reduced speed or only partially cool based on the power availability
