Ol'e Black Betty is in the shop
Our 2010 F350 dually is in the shop for some preventative engine maintenance. The 6.4L Powerstroke engine while running very strong and smooth with 187,000 km's on it been making the troubling thumping sound through the airbox. The engine has never been opened since new and has been maintained using the severe service schedule and always driven to ensure completion of the regen process to minimize DPF contamination and excessive engine cylinder wear.
The shop ran the Ford IDS tool using both the relative cylinder health test and the injector performance test. The cylinder health was almost perfect while the worst injector measured a +3 out of the allowable +/-10 range.
At this point the tech went ahead with the replacement of the high wear rocker arm and pedestal assemblies.
The old ones displayed considered wear but no broken tips or missing balls.
The tech also found that the terribly weak belt tensioner was falling apart again. It was replaced once already at 102,000 KM's.
Hoping that with this preventative maintenance we can get another 100K out of this truck without any major engine meltdown's.
Hoping to get the truck back Tuesday.
