? on roof seam at edge with gutter type of caulk to use

Along the roof seem which makes contact with the gutter, their is a bead of caulk or something else. It is starting to show its age in spots. Which type of caulk do you use to touch up any problem areas. Can I use eternabond tape along the entire edge. If there is specific caulk to use, that would be beneficial too.

thanks

Mike
  • Most RV places carry Decor Lap Sealant. You can use that. Or any lap seal for that matter that you might see at Lowes or a local roofing supply company
  • Yes, you can use Eternabond along the edge of the roof at the gutter.
That's what I did on our Southwind.
I then sealed the edge of the Eternabond with Dicor lap sealant. It's not necessary to seal the edges, I just think it does a nicer job.
  • Experienced RVers will tell you to never use Silicone caulk on an EPDM roof. Google RV Roof Silicone for more details. I use only Dicor sealant for roof patching work myself.
  • Dicor self leveling lap sealant in horizontal surfaces.
Dicor lap sealant on vertical surfaces.

    Who sells the Dicor caulk?

Any local r.v. shop, Amazon, camping world. Etc. Sometimes you can find it at Lowes

You want a non sag formula, not self leveling for that application.

There is standard Dicor lap sealant, which is for EPDM, and Dicor Ultra, which is for TPO. If you use standard Dicor on TPO there is a possibility of it reacting with and bubbling the TPO, depending on the TPO. Some will bubble, some won't.

You do not list your RV manufacturer. A lot of manufacturers have been using Alpha Systems Superflex roofing, not an EPDM or TPO but a modified vinyl. A lot of Forest River brands have the Alpha ply roofs. In that case you want to use Alpha Systems Superflex Total Protection sealant which is available in both self leveling and non sag formulas.
  • Roof seams to be some type of rubber membrane. I have a 2008 Starcraft 2700BH Travel trailer
