Ordering from Factory or??

I did a factory order for my Ram. I negotiated the price for the truck I wanted. The dealer couldn't find one locally (within 250 miles) so they ordered the truck. I found the same regarding pricing for used. For a little more I got new with the exact truck I wanted.

I spent over a year trying to find what I wanted...it didn't really matter if it was new or used I just had a particular truck with a specific setup in mind. It was impossible to find a new one but several dealers were more than willing to order one. Price would have been similar to if they had one on the lot. Problem was I needed a truck and the model year change was close so they couldn't order one yet and it would be at least 6 weeks before one would show up after it was ordered.

I did find a used one that met my needs and it looked like it had never been used as a truck. During the test drive it became evident the truck had problems. Of course carfax didn't show anything. But I was certain the right front of the truck had been hit and fixed. The dealer would not negotiate the price eventhough it had a bad rattle and pulled to the right really bad. It was a cetified used car to boot. Whoever certified it sure didn't know what they were doing.

I did finally find a truck that met my needs, plus I got a really good deal on it...thanks to diesel prices being $5.00 per gallon at the time.

So keep looking and don't be afraid to look across country...for example Carmax will shipp a vehicle to a local Carmax dealer for a price so you can look it over. They do show a lot of photos for each vehicle. I found a truck about 300 mile away and luckily my brother lived nearby he took for a test drive and gave it a thumbs up but then I found the truck I like.

You're time is worth something too. Scouring the planet for the exact truck you want could be frustrating.

Since you're buying new for the first time, order what you want. You've earned it.

My last two cars and my TV were ordered. I have a local dealer that I feel has treated me right every time. The ONLY way I could get exactly what I wanted was to order it. Yes it takes a little longer to get what you want. But to me it has been worth in. The negotiation process is the same. If your into instant gratification go buy whats on the lot. Good luck.

they ALL come from the factory so the real difference is whether the sales manager determines what they order or YOU determine what you order. Not likely you'll find any difference in pricing UNLESS they're having a sale noted as "from dealer stock only" which would just be a dumb thing to do.

I ordered my F350, I suspect that I would have got a little better price taking one off a lot but they didn't have what I wanted. And since I was spending that much money I decided to get what I really wanted to have. The dealer told me when I went in to pick it up (took about a month) that they had 8 other dealers call them up in the couple of days that it took to get it cleaned up wanting to get that truck.

I have bought two new vehicles in the past 6 months. I did factory orders for both. I'd rather get EXACTLY what I want if I'm laying down that kind of cash.

I have factory ordered new since 1984. You get exactly what you want which means not paying for options you don't want. You will get a better deal for an order. It is a pre sold vehicle that the dealer doesn't have to cover as it sits on the lot for maybe months at a time.
Also, I like the fact that nobody has been taking it for "test drives" and doing who knows what when they did.

Depends on what weight you're going to tow. The 430 has a 3000 lb higher rating. The big problem when I was looking for one they were non anywhere. I ended up with diesel and really glad I did. After towing 4000 miles I told my dealer he did me a big favor.

When it comes to my trucks I order them. That way I get what I want and I don't have to worry about it being test drove by anyone! The first 100 miles are the most important during the break in period. So I don't want anyone out trashing it.

The waiting is not that hard and it's kinda cool to have the window sticker say "This vehicle was built for XXXXXXX" :C

Don
