The Sonic is assembled here in the good ol USA. (Orion Township Plant, Orion MI.)
My knowledge includes a year and a half of working in the Lake orion Michigan plant where they assembled parts imported from Korea to build the sonic and the Buick Verano. They moved a massive amount of cardboard pallet boxes in every day. All the plastic and most of the small parts were imported. It's been years but if I recall correctly, the optional turbo engine was built in Flint Michigan and some of the sheet metal was stamped at Flint metal fab and welded in our robotic body shop.
The Sonic replaced the unloved Chevy Aveo. The Sonic is a global car, sold in more or less identical forms around the world. GM Korea formerly known as Daewoo.
