Powerstroke 6.7L Wastegate Solenoid Noise

After 103K miles my 2011 F-450 Dually developed a strange noise approximately 30 seconds after the motor is shut down. A loud buzzing noise starts that cad be heard from 20' away. It lasts approximately 45 seconds then fades away. It was intermittent at first but now it does it every time I drive the truck.

I have researched the Ford Forum as well as You Tube and find a lot of guys with the problem but no answers from Ford. In fact Ford says its normal... Was not normal during the first 103K miles.

Any intel would be appreciated.

By all indications by the trouble shooting in the TSB, this should be the solution. I ordered that part number and included the VIN. I was contacted by the company and advised that was the wrong part for my truck. I authorized the switch (which was less expensive) but when I went to replace the part I discovered quickly they did not send the correct one. The one they sent only has 2 connections. The part pictured has several and looks like a spiders web.

That said, I makes no since to me that "if disconnecting the hose stops the noise, then it is the waste gate solenoid" and they fix the problem with a replacement hose vice a new solenoid. No wonder I was a cabinetmaker and not a mechanic...

    Thanks for the input!
  • After engine shutdown, apply the brake. I had the TSB mentioned above done and the problem is fixed.
