prxb pac brake

I love my pac brake when it is working properly. The problem is there is always something wrong. In 10 years it has had 2 compressers replaced and need a new one now. The motor mount that holds it on top of the motor is cracked for the second time. Is there a better braking system out there for my 2004.5 dodge 6 speed manuel trans?
  • I replaced my PacBrake compressor after taking off the old one I was able to tighten the head bolts about a 1/4 turn. Probably why it only would pump to 60psi.

I would advise anyone with the PacBrake air compressor check the 4 bolts holding the head to the compressor body.

Sounds like you need a better quality bracket. Have you talked to Doug at PacBrake?

You might check to see if you can get the same mount for an 01. Mine is a bracket that sits under the passenger side battery, and the compressor sits between the engine and battery.
  • I had one on my 2007 Ram 2500 and had no problems at all with it. Traded truck last month and it was still working like new after 7 years. Have you checked for air leak thus making the compressor work more than necessary?
  • I installed my prxb and mounted the compressor on the truck frame. I couldn't imagine putting it on the engine. Craig
  • I removed my PB compressor from the top of the engine after it cooked a relay - it's just too hot up there. They only put it there to keep it warm in extreme cold weather so it wouldn't freeze, which it still does if you don't plug in the block heater.
I suggest moving it someplace else. If your 04.5 is like my 03, you have a great place behind the passenger side battery.

I had to make a little aluminum shelf to hang off the side of the battery tray for it to sit on but it rides nicely there. It's close to the actuator and stays cool too.
