Re-Sealing Windows

I have been doing some floor rot repairs and have been trying to find the source of the water leak. To be safe I want to remove and re-seal a window near the rot area. Is there any better product to use other that the grey butyl putty tape?

A quality Butyl tape is the best I have found and if done correctly will not ooze out with temp changes. As a marine service tech, I have repaired and replaced more boat windows than I care to count. I have always used butyl tape or Dow 795 sealant and never had a callback or leak. The Dow 795 is used to install skyscraper windows. Chuck

I did a pressure test a couple of years ago myself using a tub over a roof vent and a leaf blower. Probably not the most effective but it found a few things but nothing in this area. I suspect it could be a water pump fitting, window, antenna, or the roof edge. It may even be the J-skirt, since it was repaired a couple of years ago. Maybe they didn't seal it correctly. I figured re-sealing the window would be fairly easy and good preventative maintenance. I don't mind the butyl tape it just has a tendency to ooze out on hot days. I would prefer closed cell tape but not sure where I can find locally and if anyone had troubles using it. As far as sealant I prefer DAP dynaflex 230. I used geocell once and it turned yellow and fell off after a year.
I will post a report with pictures of the floor repair job once I get finished.

Silicone is a good sealant when used in compression between two surfaces where UV and weather are not present, i.e. under a window or door flange.

The polymer sealants like Geocel and Lexel are superior to everything else when exposed to UV and weather. Using butyl tape, which is waterproof, allows for surface irregularities and compresses well under door and window flanges.Followed by sealing the perimeter of a window (except bottom) with a polymer sealant, offers a double protection of the seal from the window to the body of the trailer.

If I had a failed floor from water leaking, I'd do an interior pressurized leak test to make sure I could seal all leaks. The pressure test will turn up even a pinhole leak.

FWIW, when I restored my Starcraft and applied many tubes of sealant around and between all the areas I thought may leak, the pressure test turned up a dozen or so leak spots. I then applied Eternabond tapes to everything on the roof and applied Geocel Polymer adhesive to any areas on the siding or around windows. No leaks present, AFAIK. I plan to DIY more periodic leak tests as a maintenance item.

Nothing wrong with butyl tape if applied correctly. Silicone has its uses, but sealing around an RV window isn’t one of them. I use Lexel because I can get it locally and it is basically equal to Geocel Proflex.

When we bought our TT I resealed everything.
Learned that lesson when we had our popup.
Best sealant I found is Geocel proflex rv
comes in different colors plus clear works great.
Ordered from eBay.com.Don't use on epmd rubber roof.
Use dicor sealant for that.these sealants are what
the manufacturers use.only they do it half-ass.

I had a leaking window where they completely missed the corner of the window with butyl tape. I taped it and used geocell around the frame to the filon and sealed all the rest of them. I wasn't going to remove any more windows.

My buddies new Arctic Fox kept leaking under a window and no one could figure it out. So he and I took the window out (again) and found that where the frame of the window goes all the way around the window and meets back up with a seem, they had not totally sealed the seem correctly. This resulted in the tiniest hole but it was enough to do damage.
