Rockwood 2607a

Well the kids no longer camp with us and we're looking at selling our Hideout 27bhswe with bunk beds. I've had my eye on a Rockwood 2607a emerald edition with outdoor kitchen. Does anyone have this model and how to you like it?
  • Good luck on the sale of the Hideout. Agree with you on the sofa.
  • Haven't pulled the trigger yet. Still trying to sell our Hideout. First person to respond is coming this weekend. We do like the 27 foot size. My wife wanted shorter but I wanted to have a couch. I think this might be where the jump in size comes from. Anything bigger than this won't fit on the side of our house so that's our of the question.
  • DUH!, didn't even notice your screen name. I showed DH the floorplan last night and we had exactly the same responses and his re the trip to the bathroom. But if you rarely would have guests, no problem. One thing we found on our 2604 is that the standard door from the living area to the bathroom HAS to be closed when you put the slide in....don't even ask how we know this, just thankful DH can fix anything. His thought on your bathroom door is that possibly you could use just a small bungy and secure the door open - ASSUMING is clears the slide and then getting in and out would be easier.

Have you pulled the trigger on this yet or still pondering? While I was on the RVW website I noticed a couple other new or slightly modified models in this same size range. I find it surprising that you see lots of smaller size TT or HTT, 23' or so, then it jumps to the 30'+ and up. Even if we had a tow vehicle that was compatible with a larger TT, we still see no need for it when it's just 2 of us 99% of the time. Maybe this size is getting more popular.
  • Thanks for all the information. As you can probably tell from my screen name we have also had a Roo. It was a 2006 233. We have no problems, we baught it used and only had it a couple of years. I get a little confused when the dealer tells me how the walls are all vacuum laminates and nobody else does that but I also see some bad reviews about leaks. Dadmomh I'm glad you had a similar size model to compare to. We don't have many people to camp with so walking from one end to the other shouldn't be a problem but I did notice that with the sofa out you can just walk around the island. Bubba Chris no we have not been in it closed but the bathroom door does hinge on the side closer to the slide so I rethink it will open. Our current trailer does that and we have to open the slide a few inches to get in the bathroom. The outdoor kitchen is really what I want. I always setup a table with a grill and set up a stove. All are stored under the bunk in a compartment accessible from the outside so I would be loosing that space. So with the outdoor kitchen all that is in the trailer.
  • Have you been in that model with both of the slides pulled in?

One of the things we love about our TT is how easy it is to get to the bathroom when the slide is in. Yet at the campsite we have a lot of counter space inside for cooking and it's easy for both of us to be in there (or walk by each other)
  • Can't help you with that model....believe it's brand new this year or last and no mention of anyone else with one. We have the Rockwood Ultra Lite 2604 and can tell you that we're pleased with it, the fit and finish, the quality. This is our second Rockwood, with the ROO 23SS hybrid being the first and never problem #1.

Since this is my first look at this model, I'll tell you what I see that would be good or not so good features for us. The garden shower is wonderful as are most of their new bathrooms - a huge improvement over our hybrid....the newer bathrooms usually have nice storage. The dinette is the standard style but larger than we had in our ROO and is a lot more comfortable....you can seat 4 for a meal lots easier with the expanded size. I'm assuming that the sofa has the air mattress that we have in our 2604 and according to those who've overnighted with us have said it was very comfortable - has a built in electric air pump and a manual one in addition. Quick and easy to set up....less than 5 minutes. The entertainment center is in a good location related to the sofa.

In the "we don't care either way" list is the outdoor kitchen. They are becoming very popular and those who have them are pleased. We would prefer to have that space indoors instead. We would choose no on that option, but don't see it as a negative. One of those to each his own things.

The island is a positive and lots of good living area opened up. The kitchen countertop by the stove is a bit shy, but I was spoiled with our ROO and the huge kitchen countertop...I miss it in our 2604, but what we have is functional and we've just learned to work differently.

The bedroom wardrobe set up is likely pretty much the same as ours and likely underbed storage and 3 drawers at the foot of the bed. While the wardrobes aren't huge, you can easily get a week's worth of clothes in each side - unless you're thinking heavy, bunky winter things.

Now the negative or not-so-good....I would not want to walk the length of the trailer to get from the bedroom to the bathroom. Our 2604 has the bathroom adjoining with a sliding door and was probably THE deciding factor. Realizing 27' is not miles, at the times we have had guests, it was nice to be able to have the sliding door between the bedroom/bathroom and a standard door between the living area and bathroom.....gave more privacy. Depending on how good these friends or family are, getting from the bedroom past those using the sofa bed could be uncomfortable. That may or may not have any effect in the way you camp and guests vs no guests.

Weightwise, the 2607a is a bit heavier, but pretty close...we're 5585/6629. We tow with an '03 F150 crew cab with 5.4 and factory tow. With our ROO we had an Equalizer and it did a fine job....other than the noise factor and it seemed DH always ended up dirty from handling it. The bars were too heavy for me to lift, so hook up would have been a major problem if I had to do it. The dealer suggested we look at the Blue Ox 1000. Their website has 2 good videos and DH liked what he saw. Shhhhh, nice and quiet. If needed, I could set it up - would rather not, but I could. Something you might look at if you haven't made that decision yet. Tows very, very well.

So that's the good and the not-as-good. We are very happy in this size range...still easy to fit most anywhere. Regardless the brand, you'll find folks that love it or hate it, but we've not anything that would make us unhappy with our Rockwoods. Good luck, looks like a nice trailer. Happy camping!
