Roof leak

Hi. I just signed up to this forum in hopes that someone can advise me. I apologize in advance if I am posting in the wrong section. I have a 20 foot travel trailer. It's a Fleetwood Mallard that I purchased last year. I have a major water damage and I will be replacing the floor and a portion of the walls. I was able to find where the water was coming in from. It appears my roof was sealed prior to me owning it but when I climbed on top of the TT today, it looks as if it has a tear. I would like to know what materials I need to use to fix the damage without having to replace the whole roof. I am going to attempt to attach a picture.
Thanks for any guidance you can give.

  • If you have a rubber roof, Eternabond can create a permanent repair.

    Eternabond

Make sure you follow the cleaning instructions per the directions. The rubber must be cleaned and prepped for the Eternabond to stick and bond correctly.

There are several places that sell the Roof Seal product. They may it in different widths.

    Hope this helps

  • eterna bond tape. They have a new product, same manufacturer. Called Sticknbond tape. Comes in different sizes. For tears or where front or rear cap transitions. I recently bought a 37 ft roll 6" wide. About $2 a foot. Small cracks on horizontal surface use Dicor self leveling caulk. I cleaned with mineral spirits first and let it dry. Dicor costs about $10 a tube.

Take some pictures and forum members can help you more.
  • thank you very much. I am trying to figure out how to post the picture.

  • when I got a small hole in the rubber roof of my bounder I got a patch kit from camping world which consisted of some EPDM material with a sticky backing and a tube of some sealant for the edges. I trusted that much more than putting scotch tape on a tear.

  • You can check the help files on the forum to find out how to post a picture. Your Photobucket account has some filters on it that limits viewing.

It looks like the sealant in that area has cracked and the roof sheathing is rotten underneath. Eternabond tape and some new sealant may work for awhile.
  • I would imagine you have a good amount of rotten wood in that roof if you have damage down to the floor. Is the roof soft? About a square foot of roof was soft in our rear corners and the damage extended back about 10 feet. We replaced the entire roof including all of the plywood and much of the wood in the rear half of the trailer roof, walls, and floor. What seems to be fairly minor water damage can quickly turn into a MAJOR project.
  • Yes, I have water damage in the walls and floor. Which I will be replacing. I bought the camper last year and have already repaired the bathroom floor, and a few other minor issues. I have also invested in brand new tires. I have spent almost as much as I paid for it originally. I am not cheap by any means but I am hoping to repair the roof as opposed to replacing it.
