Sliding dinette table mod
I like almost everything about my old Avion but the table needed a little tweaking to fit the DW and I. I'm 6'( or was) and she's 5' so a little compromise was in order as far as table height . The table leg is much heavier than the newer ones and has lever to release it from the cone mount . Very nice feature , so cutting it shorter was not an option . Originally it mounted on top of the raised floor under the table . The raised floor has a solid section n the middle to support the leg cone mount with two flip up doors and storage below . Sorry , this may get wordy , unfortunately I didn't take pictures along the way. Anyway , I took the raised floor apart and mounted the cone mount below with a hole for the table leg . This lowered the table enough to make DW happy and I still fit.
With this table leg by flipping up the lever it swivels easily . My idea was to turn the table right angle to the wall giving a lot of room for lounging and reading with your feet up on either side . The problem with that was the table was sticking out in the isle too much. decided to make a slide so t could be pushed back against the wall .
The side guides where made from 1-1/2" x 1/8" aluminum bar stock . The bottom one is set back 5/16" to create a slot . Under the bottom bar is a strip of thin aluminum flashing so it would have all metal to metal contact for sliding . The wood block holding the table mount has a square of aluminum sheet slightly under 1/8" that protrudes on ether side 1/4" to fit in the bar slots . The small lever locks are to hold it in place when in the dining position .
This is the dining position
And this is the lounging position
With luck it may help someone else along the way.
