Sofa bed

What have you done to improve the mattress on your sofa bed? Thinking of getting a memory foam mattress topper but here are so many kinds. Anybody have a great suggestion? Thank you in advance
  • We removed the sleeper sofa altogether and put Ekornes recliners in its place. From our experience, sleeper sofas/sofa beds a neither good for sitting nor sleeping.

  • Pull the mattress from the couch and put it on the floor. It will be much more comfortable than fighting all the dips and bumps and wedges in a sofa couch.
  • I pulled the terrible thin fordable mattress off and put an AirDream mattress.
No more bars felt and very acceptable comfort. Very satisfied, and when deflated, tucks back into the couch just like the original mattress.

    From their website:

[COLOR=]Air Dream uses revolutionary and patented air-over-coil engineering that adds the support of traditional bedding to air cushioned comfort.

The result is a sleep surface that provides correct support and also cushions the body with an upholstered layer of air.
The ultimate in sofa sleeper mattress comfort!
This innovative air-over-coil technology looks and feels like a premium luxury mattress!
Easily inflates in just 45 seconds!
Compared to a standard sleeper mattress the Air Dream has twice the thickness!
  • We have a jack knife sleep sofa and you can really feel the edges of the different sections when it's folded out. I usually grab the pads from the dinette and put it on top for extra padding. For a more long term solution, I'd go with a memory foam topper, but I only sleep there when I get kicked out of bed for too much snoring. I've thought about this solution as well, which offers a little more than your standard topper: Sleep Master Memory Foam 4 Inch Tri-Fold Comfort Mat

Told our 20 yr old if he still wants to camp with us in our couple's trailer then the sofa is what it is and he can either live with it or sleep in a tent. :W He's done both and I think the tent won. ;)
  • We use a 4-in memory foam topper on our fold out sofa bed. Our guests have said it worked very well. It really seams and bumps of the sofa bed.

To store while camping we simply fold it in half with all the bedding and throw it on the foot of our bed in the bedroom.
  • We use a 2.5 inch memory foam cool topper and it's so nice
  • We got rid of the sofa bed with inflatable mattress and replaced it with a loveseat. Much more comfortable to sit on. If we do end up with a grandkid or two sleeping inside, rather than in their tent, we can always use a blowup mattress on the floor.

I read something here when I first joined the forum and have never forgotten it. Someone posted that their RV seats eight for cocktails, seats four for dinner and sleeps two. Works for us.
  • Thank you all so much. I was wondering about that Air Dream...thanks for the input
  • Years ago someone here suggested that you slice a swimming noodle down the center and lay it in the fold of the sofa bed. It sounded like a good idea. I have never tried it because we have a bed plus four bunks but it might make sleeping on the sofa better. I think they than laid a mattress topper over it.
