Stabilizing my Trailer

I used steadyfast and it works quite well. It was easy to install and it takes all of 10 seconds to activate.

I built my own, 3/4" conduit and all thread that will fit inside the conduit, Welded a nut to one conduit and the other conduit I have a washer welded to it...So from left to right, its conduit with a welded nut, all thread (threaded into nut-about 6-7", then a nut with a wing (so it can be tightened against the washer that is welded to the other piece of conduit, and about 6-7" of all thread inside the conduit. One end is attached to the bottom of the stabilizer jack with a piece of angle iron, and the other piece (say 4-1/2' to 5' away) is attached to the frame, front to back. There is just enough angle (from being parallel to the frame) that it keeps the movement from side to side down to a minimum...but front to back...is gone....I drop the stabilizer jack down to a piece of wood, then tighten the nut (with the wing) to the washer, couple of turns so its nice and tight, go all around the trailer and pretty soon its tite like a tiger....total cost is about 75 bucks, way cheaper than the 275 for two.

My Dad had wedges to block his wheels and when I made my homemade wheel chocks (4x4 with readi-rod) for my trailer, I made him a set also. He was not very excited, but gave them a try. He does not even put his stabilizers down now, he is fine with just the wheel chocks and tongue jack. He loves the wheel chocks.

We all have differing situations, but can leverage ideas and what others are doing to get more enjoyment out of our camping experiences.

Our old trailer (26' Terry, no slide) moved more than I liked so I bought the cheap screw jacks at Walmart to brace the frame near the middle and also the steps. Taking alittle movement out was enough for me.

I'll put one under the back bumper, where the sway is coming from, and one along the side close to the wheels. That should help, if they performed as advertised.

My other thought was to add scissor jacks just ahead of the wheels, if the x-chocks aren't solid enough.

Those would be the ratchet straps that were referred to in a previous reply.

You can buy a set of 2-2 1/2" ratchet straps at Costco for around $25.

Where do you live in Edmonton. I grew up on the south side in the '50s. White Mud Creek was the go to place in the summer, be down there every day along with about another 100 kids.

I grew up in the southside as well, but in the 80's. White mud creek was still a happening place. I live in St. Albert now.

I fabbed these up and put then right between my wheels.
I just tightened them up after I was level and the front and rear stab were down. These along with my DYI JT's and it was solid 95% of the time. The other 5% it was still pretty good but on softer dirt/gravel and harder to get the ground compressed.

You'll never get rid of all of it as your sitting on your suspension. Axles leaf springs rubber tires filled with air. But you can try to limit it some. An extra pair of jacks mid way down and as someone said root jacks. I use two ratchet straps and strap the tires from moving. Works perfectly. But there is still some movement. The stabilizer jacks do free up so try checking them in the morning to keep them tight.
