Stablizing slides

When leaving your TT longterm - do you put anything under the slides to support them? Thanks,

I'd like to see someone chime in here that has actually set up there slide with stabilizers/corner jacks down and had them cause damage and what the circumstances were.

Sometimes to much internet savy without actual experiences are misleading.

Okay, You have a flat tire...That leaves one tire still aired up and four corner jacks tightened up.How is the trailer going to sag enough to do harm with the other tire aired up and the corner jacks holding up the trailer?

I just had a flat while set up and the trailer didn't move.Between the remaining tire aired up and the four corner/screw jacks, it remained at the same level making easy to air up without the pressure on it.

I tend to agree with your assessment of this settling phenomenon. In general I agree that the slide should not need any additional support. However I'm not sure all these "CHICKEN LITTLE" scenarios of stab jacks sinking to China and parts beyond because one has evidently parked in "Quick Sand" or mysteriously having a flat while parked with your four stabilizing jacks deployed would create a "differential" force on the slide that has jacks under it (remember those will also settle too) to actually damage the slide.

Just because something is for sale via aftermarket does not mean it is needed.

Agreed 100 %.

I keep hearing if you get a flat the trailer will sink and ruin the slide if you have stabilizers on it... Why won't the corner jacks keep the trailer where it was?

Four corner jacks rated at 6500lbs each is very capable of holding the trailer up if you get a flat. I can screw mine up to where the tongue jack isn't touching and there not even close to there weight limit although I don't purposely do that.

IF your slides need to be stabilized, get them repaired. EVEN if jacks don't sink, putting props under slide rooms when you're not around is dangerous. A tire going flat can cause serious damage to the slide room as NONE of them are designed to carry the weight of the trailer on their mechanism.

I use the stabilizers on the slide when my two grown boys come and sleep on the dinette. 450 pounds bouncing around needs support. I only snug them up and make sure the four corner jacks are tight... Once gone, I take them off..

Never had an issue.

Don not put supports under your slides. What will happen is that your trl will settle over time and the slide will not if they are supported. You'll end up pushing the slides out of position if you put supports under them causing leaks and other issues.

We had the same question and after a little research herein and via google, we decided to just leave them as is. Actually further supporting the slide could do more harm than good due to the settling of the TT/Stabilizers. There maybe others with a different opinion (of course), but this was the conclusion of our research.
