Tacoma & Airstream?

Guess being a tacoma owner and fan I couldn't help notice something new on the highway today.

Today going in the opposite direction on the highway saw a newer/new Tacoma and what appaired was about a 17' Airstream. I Believe the airstream had 1 axle. He seemed to be moving right along with the highway traffic. Noticed his whole setup was strait and level. Would have loved to have talked to the guy! :C

  • Airstreams currently makes a 16 ft and 19 ft with single axels. Both are called Bambi. We pull a 2018 Bambi 16 ft with a Toyota 4Runner. In the past we pulled a 19ft Bambi with the same 4Runner. It is a 6 cylinder and pulls both very well. Tacoma and 4Runner are not the same but are closely related.

What would you have asked, lol?
  • I'm pulling a 17 foot Casita with my Tacoma out here in mountain area of the west. Don't think I want anything any heavier due to all the up hill grades. Tacoma is a 2016, V6, auto, 2 wheel drive 4 door.

Nice pull behind. Think I'm too tall for one though. Love to find a restoreable Serro Scotty. Bought one new back in the 60's. Nice unit.
  • And I towed a 2010 Escape 17B (3100 lbs/ 360 lbs tongue) with a 2016 Tacoma Off Road with no problems, both East & West mountains, etc. You do have to accept the high revving engine - lots of time at 4000RPM in 3rd gear @ 60MPH.

I switched to an Escape 21, (4600 lbs, 500 lbs tongue) and I now have a Ford 150 EcoBoost on order. Pulled the 21 back from the factory with the Tacoma (around 7000 miles, average of 11.5MPG), and even more time in 3rd gear, & the truck was overloaded, hence the change.

Must have found a gem in my 4runner -- supposedly the same engine as the 6-cyl Tacoma.

Towing 5,000 lbs and RPM barely crossing 3,000 in 6% grades Grapevine and Cajon Pass then St. George Pass into hairpins of East Entrance of Zion National Park.
  • Most of the times I can keep my engine RPM <3000 but sometimes I have needed to go to about 3400. My trailer is 3700 LBS dry. Generally I drive 62 to 67 MPH
