Think this might cause a P0300 (Random Misfire)

Long story short. Put new wires on the Truck last summer. Same ones I have used on the 11 second Trans Am for years. 5.7 LS1 VS 6.0. Lots of similarities. At any rate they didn't do so well in a towing application.
Last trip of the season truck had a terrible miss. Thought it may have been the intake gasket, swapped it at the site took about an hour and a half. It made a difference the old one was bad, common on the 02. Still a miss, read codes they pointed to a CPS. Crawled under to change it out. Looked up saw three wires that looked like this.

Went back to the stock ones and had the trailer out this past weekend...all fixed. Guess the truck makes a little bit more heat than the Trans Am.
  • Guess running a car for 11 seconds is a LOT different than towing a trailer with a truck :B
  • many GMs came stock with metal insulators that slip over the plug boot and were used as a heat shield. You may want to get a set for your vehicle

Correct. In the aftermarket world there are bunch that don't need them. Apparently these ones don't in the case of the Trans Am. The metal heat shields don't fit over the Taylor wires. They were not designed to have them. I have to wonder how hot it gets under the hood of the truck as they are good up to 600 degrees. I now have a set of stock GM wires on there with shields.

Do a search for ceramic glass boots. They should fit any wires.
