I'm curious. During those 3500 miles, did you have to add much air, or did your lug nuts loosen up?

I've forgotten the specifics, but Trailer Life had an article on nitrogen a few months ago. After reading it, I didn't see any need to bother with it, and if I did, nitrogen is not readily available. Like you, I'm constantly checking my tires. At every diesel stop, the first thing I do is walk around the entire rig, placing one hand on the tread and the other on the hub, checking for excessive heat.

I have had TTs with air in the tires and when they get low I add air
I have also had TTs with nitrogen in the tires and when the went low I added air.

The air we breathe is 78% nitrogen so I'm putting mostly nitrogen in my tires when I add any air.

When nitrogen is FREE I'll put it in my tires until then I'll use the diluted nitrogen as it is free I just have to use my own compressor.

Only takes once to pay for the time spent each time you check and not need anything done. There would be a lot fewer bad tire threads if everyone took the time to check the air pressure each morning or even once a week.

Put "nitrogen" in the search box. I dare you :B

I'm not disagreeing with his approach or challenging his method. But simply for curiosity, I wonder if there were changes. I usually check my pressure every morning or two on a trip. As for the lug nuts, I usually check them at 25, 50 and 100 miles after a tire change. I've noticed that it's quite common for the lug nuts to move 1/8 of a turn when I torque them at 25 miles, move slightly at 50 miles, and be "locked" in at 100 miles plus.

:) Hi, personally, I think over checking things causes more problems, like leaking valve stems. As for lug nut torque, I check mine before each trip. If I actually removed a wheel, I will re-torque it once on the road. As for tire pressure, I also check it at home before each trip and never again. I do a visual check of my hitch and tires at every rest stop, gas stop, and camp ground.

Nitrogen in tyres is 90%. It's drier than compressed air. You don't lose more than 0.5psi/mo

Actually, if you have them fill your tires with helium, you trailer will feel much lighter and seem to float down the road.:B
