Told you so!

Quite a while back in a thread about front air dams playing a role in fuel mileage I was basically told by some that I was full of it.
All y'all can kiss my grits, see video below.

So there!

    Lol, right?
Now if the mfgs wouldn’t mold the **** things into some weird shape that integrates in to the appearance of the front bumper. That pisses me off. Can’t remove some without it looking like the truck is missing part of the front bumper.

You could buy a Ford :B

  • You will also see light weight belly pans on many vehicles that do not function as skid plates. Their primary purpose is to increase aerodynamic efficiency of the under carriage. A secondary benefit is less road grime and debris accessing the engine.

Air dams have their place, but I do feel they impede true 4wd use. If you look at most Toyota pickups used off-road, the air dam is the first thing that is removed by the owner or terrain.

    x2

Looking at that it would most certainly NOT be attached to my truck anymore. I bought a truck, not a performance car.
  • We remove front air dams on frozen snow banks all the time.
  • I'd like to see a real test on a closed road course where one truck with the retractable air dam and one without are given the same amount of fuel and driven the same speed to measure the results. The material cost of the retractable air dam just negated some fuel savings cost right off the bat. Why not just eliminate the dam all together?
  • I don't remember that post. I guess the ones that didn't agree did not understand aerodynamics. That is the exact reason Ford added the taller air dam on the superduty's. That is the easiest way to tell the difference between the '08-09 from the 2010.
