Yep, payload based on the 10,000# max GVWR for a class 2 truck. If you chose to go by the GRAWR it will likely go up about 1,000#.

Just to add some numbers...many 3/4 ton HD trucks rear axle may weigh in the 2900 lb range subtracted from 6100 rawr = around 3100 lb payload in the bed before exceeding the lessor of a axle/tire/wheel or rear spring packs. Generally the OEM wheels are the weak link.
  • The payload tag confuses more people than it helps. It can either overstate or understate the actual capability of a given vehicle.

In Alberta the scale police don't care about any of those numbers. They really aren't overly interested in what little pick up trucla are hauling period. If they did care they would first make sure your tires are not overloaded. Next would be your rear axle. I'm quite sure they would never look beyond that.

In British Columbia If your headlights are pointing at the moon they could ticket you if you are over you vehicles gvwr.

The bad part for 5er owners is that very LITTLE weight is added to the front and part of the capacity is derived from the front axle rating.
