Your real tow rating is 6.67 times the available payload left in your vehicle after the fuel tank is full, everything you plan to take along is loaded in the bed, and everyone you plan to take along is loaded in the cab.

Or, 6.67 times the maximum rating of the receiver installed on the truck with weight distribution.

Whichever is lower.

6.67 because those weight figures I specify above are your truck's capacity for TONGUE WEIGHT. Assuming 15% tongue weight, 6.67 times 15 is as close to 100% as you can get without getting overly technical.

Also keep in mind here that a 700lb lighter truck is 700lbs less dog out in front to keep the tail from wagging. Not so much of an issue for a professional OTR trucker pulling a trailer designed to be controllable, but for the occasional weekend RVer with a cell phone going off every 5 minutes, 3 screaming kids in the back seat, an attention-starved dog, and an attention-starved wife pulling a trailer designed for floorplan...

This is true. I would venture to guess that pretty much every 3/4 ton diesel towing a 5'er is over their stated payload ratings.

I know my '06 2500 diesel only left about 2200 lbs of payload (curb weight was 7000#, gvwr 9200#). It is hard to find a 5'er with under 2k of pin weight.

Skip 250 and go for 350. Diesel 3/4 tons run out of payload with 5ers faster than half tons with TTs.

According to Fords web-site the 2015 F-150 can be had with "non-limited slip axle", "limited slip axle" or "electronic locking axle" in 4X2 models also.

Just be sure to get the 8,200 GVWR option.
Open the drivers door and check the sticker before you sign anything.

To a couple of question concerning the topic: 1) yes, a locking rear end is a 2014 f150 option, and 2. Ultimately, if I buy the F150 I will followup with a TT. If f250, it will be will diesel and I'll likely go 5th wheel.

Ford has been shying away from clutch designed for limited slip differentials. Brake-based traction control that is standard takes away much of the market need for it and Ford offers electronic locking (in 4WD only) for much of 2011+ F-150s.

Read the truck towing specs for Ford trucks. You are legally responsible for having an adequate tow vehicle.

I was just surprised reading that... an F150 has a locking axel rear end?? Is this part of a special order setup? Do you mean limited slip?
