Toyota Diesel

Nissan Titan and Toyota Tundra each getting the 5.0 L Cummins. Either of those will make nice tow vehicles for small to midsize travel trailers and 5th wheels.

Too bad the RAM 1500 is only getting the 3.2 Liter Cummins.

I met a Tundra the other day that was hauling a Lance 855 TC. He was a little nose high going down the road.

Yep sounds like a great motor on paper. I never would have thought that one day the Ram would be getting an Italian diesel while Nissan and Toyota would get the Cummins . Might be a bit of overkill but those trucks will never have an issue with any inclines with their limited capacities. I can't help but think that the much stouter (power wise anyway) Cummins is really going to bite Ram in the rear if it can average within a couple mpg's of the Italian diesel.

The Ram is getting a 3.0 VM Mitori not a 3.2 Cummins.

It is old news, what little I have read about them sounded like they would still be in 1/2 ton trucks, so not really applicable to TC's.
The diesel engine will lower the payload even further.

They are 25 years late to the diesel party

They may be late to the party but I suspect they will sell many to people who use trucks in their work. Good mileage, torque, and economy to maintain will win over many, as will the diesel Ram.

I think Ram's strategy is to provide a more fuel efficient option.
Heck, diesels have (arguably) had enough power for 20 years.
What some of us want is better FE.

I believe they will both come up short ON PAYLOAD!

IMO, it makes sense for the RAM 1500 to get a 3.2 L . RAM already has the big diesel for the 2500 & 3500 . Would it make sense to put a BIG diesel in a 1500? Or perhaps you were thinking something a little bigger like a 4.0 to 4.5 liter engine??

Actually it's not a 3.2L Cummins, it's an Italian firm VM Motori engine.
