Trail Lites really light?

Just looking for some info someone may have regarding trailer weights. Normally no trailer is as light as the manufacturer says, except maybe for Trail Lite? About 17 years ago we had a 2000 30' Trail Lite and as I remember is was really light for a 30 footer. My 454 Suburban yanked it around pretty good. We're now looking at a 2003 Trail Lite Model 8263S that supposedly weighs around 3800 lbs dry. I know its going to be 3 or 400 heavier with options, but just wondered if anyone has actually weighed one.

I'm a little gun shy, our current trailer is a 22' 2004 Tahoe that was supposed to weigh 2900 dry. After we bought it we weighed it and it weighed 4300 lbs!! which didn't make any sense, still wondering how gullible we were.

In 2006 we purchased a new 2007 TrailCruiser C21RBH hybrid by RVision which also built the Trailite series as well, the company's major claim to fame being exceptionally light weight trailers in any given size when compared to the competition. One reason was the sandwich foam floor rather than a much heavier conventional plywood floor and although we never had any issues with ours many other RVision owners did. If exceptionally light weight is your goal then you won't find anything lighter than an RVsion product, the problem of course now being that this company is no longer in business so you'd in effect being investing in an orphan.
  • My 2004 Trail lite 8263S says 3900 lbs. I purchased it and weighed it it weighed 4100 and it had empty tanks and AC,battery and almost empty propane tanks.
  • My 25 ft. Dutchman Lite sticker says 5004 lbs. dry and 400 lbs. on the tongue. The CAT scale says 6200 to 6400 lbs. and 700 lbs. on the tongue when I am loaded for the road.

The best number is the TT's max vehicle weight if you want the high end number.

The biggest issue I have with the "Lite" designation is you cannot walk on the roof.
  • See what the "weigh in" sticker says. This is the sticker of the "dry weight" posted by the manufacture on the inside of the entry door. Ours was about 300lbs more than the listed dry weight. Also factor in that the propane tanks and batteries weigh at least 150lbs.
  • Anytime the word 'Lite' is used in a name, I know it's heavy. The Lite part is the quality of build, not the materials used.
