trailer tire/axle alignment

Just because the axles were new does not mean they were properly arched/aligned once installed on your trailer. Call around to some heavy duty truck/trailer shops and price out alignments from them. The RV dealer price seems pretty high. A couple hundred dollars would be more in line.
BTW have you jumped a curb? Also what brand of tires do you have. There has been lots of reports of cheap tires creating all sorts of problems.

I would think that one alignment would be good enough for the life of the trailer unless you hit a lot of curbs. Like you I also found that shops seem to want $400 to do an alignment. This includes some heating and bending which I'm not real keen on having done. For the time being I'll let mine wear tires funny as they seem to need to be replaced due to age long before they wear out.

I agree the tires get replaced due to age vs wear. I hated to replaced the last set of tires they only had about 25,000 miles on them with lots of tread left but wer developing large cracks in the sidewall due to age (5 years).

It doesn't sound like they were alligned when they were replaced. I had our campers axles removed and spacers put in so I could run 16" LT tires. All this was done and the axles alligned at the same time. We have not had any odd tire ware or blowouts since.

had our Salem trailer for 2 years, tires were wearing pretty bad..bought two new tires and aligned the axles (250 at a spring place here in town), took it to two trips...no rough roads but did take it over a couple of speed bumps at really low speed. Checked the alignment...50 bucks..and was ok....one trip, hit a pot hole...took it back, checked it, 250 more to align.....sadly does not take much.

and yeah 400 seems high...do you have a trailer, spring place around you?? lots cheaper.

I paid $99/axle for my TT last fall.

Great topic. Everybody always wants to blame the tow vehicle for all of their towing problems. It "might" be the trailer sometimes.

The OP states only one tire is wearing unevenly, if the axle is out of alignment shouldn't both tires be wearing uneven also if the second axle also needs alignment why aren't those tires showing signs of wearing?

Also what type of wearing are you getting? A bad or loose bearing on only one side can cause certain types of wear. Check the spindle and bearing on the side with the bad tire don't just take their word that the axle is out of alignment without checking first.

Could be a slipped belt or tire separating. Get the tire off and inspect.
