Well the dreaded thing happened, i found the floor under the dinette soft. The floor was solid the last time i checked, had a lot of rain lately and suddenly the floor is soft. I pulled up the linoleum and the wood under it is soft and rotten. Found conflicting info on the net on the construction of the floor. Some reported that the floor is just sandwiched wood with no joists. Another poster described replacing old joists. Can some one describe how the floor was constructed and the best course of action to fix.

On my Jayco 23b, we pulled the tank off underneath, replaced the plywood, after spraying it with rubber coated stuff (sorry can't remember what it's called). We then went inside pulled up the rotten wood all the way down, used 2x4's as floor joist, a layer of plywood then luan and replaced the vinyl. Not sure if there are joists throughout because we only had to fix a spot probably 3'x3.5'

Best bet to know for sure is to contact Starcraft, or, open it up and see. Our Starcraft roof is the sandwich material with no joists except where the AC sits. The floor I'm sure has joists, but I'm not sure if there is a similar sandwich material (for insulation purposes) or not.

Thanks i looked at that thread, the layout of the rv in the first pick is exactly like my camper but it sounds like it is different make. The damage in my camper is not that extensive. I am torn between just drying it out and impregnate it with epoxy like Rot Docctor. I am concerned with the wall. It looks like it is sitting on the floor. The wet area is next to and under the wall for a distance of about 4' also if there is some kind of foot plate in the wall. I will take i pic tomerrow for you guys to take a look at.

I think from around the hot water heater. The wall next to the bad area felt dry and solid no delamination along the out side wall.

Be careful when filling up the potable water fill. Any overflow out the vent or fill tube may leak at the screw on cap into the camper. Add water flowing out while towed, and slowly destroying the wall and floors of all campers!

It appear that the wall is enforced with aluminum tubing and the tube run all along the bottom of the wall. That i think is good. The floor is a sandwich of plywood and styrene. Could still not figure out if there is any stringers in this floor construction.

Had a similar Starcraft with water damage during the warranty. Since I live in Indiana I visited the factory both times it went back for major repairs. The floor is a top and bottom layer of plywood with Styrofoam sandwiched in between. Seams are over frame supports.

Sorry but I don't have a clue as to how one would replace a section. The entire floor is put down first and everything is built on top of it.
