Travel trailer fresh water fill question

Need to check the 'routing' of the filler hose.
If it sags then water will back up when just pouring water in but can flow when using a hose

An your fresh water tank doesn't have a 'pressure relief valve'.........just a vent line that also needs to be straight, no kinks, no sags and higher than top of tank. Size of vent line will determine how fast you can gravity fill if filler hose doesn't have room to vent escaping air also.

(PRV's are on water heater)

Add a 6 inch piece of hose to the funnel to get past the neck of the fill spout.
I had to add one to my drinking water hose because the metal "male" end wouldn't go into the filler neck.

When you stuff the funnel in, it seals around the opening and then you fill the funnel with water and it can't get thru the funnel hole because no air can escape past the funnel neck.

You have to leave a gap where the funnel neck goes in the fill hole so the pressure is equal. Then it'll go in as fast as the funnel will allow.

Sounds like the air vent for your fill is obstructed. If you cannot easily clear it, get a smaller tube which leaves lots of space around it for air to vent past.

I use a funnel with a tube of about 1/2" ID about a foot long. I still occasionally need to burp the tank while filling.

Mine has a vent separate from the fill opening. When I fill with a hose I attach a plastic tubing to the hose long enough to reach into the tank, several feet long. The same thing would work with a funnel. Make it even longer so you can raise the funnel well above the opening to develop some pressure.

I assume you would want a funnel when your not using a hose? When I fill from a 6 gallon portable tank, I made sure the valve was removable. In in its place, I screwed in a 3/4" NPT hose fitting. Attached a braided piece of clear tubing. Filling is now simple, and without spills.

If you are only referring to filling with a hose, and the hose end doesn't fit into the fill hole so you were trying a funnel, buy this:

That's similar to what I made but I made mine much longer so it would reach into the tank. I think the hose length I used was about 45". I can fill the tank at full flow.

The tube blew off the valve. Now the tube is inside my tank BUT I do have a handy garden hose shut-off valve :B

I busted my fresh water fill tank inlet by resting the heavy 5-gallon water can on it. It still closes but the pull out spout doesnt work anymore hehe...

I need to get that fixed I guess...

I wasn't paying attention I reckon...

The jerry can weighs a bunch for this old man I guess... I probably should look for a portable 12VDC pump to use. Then I can leave my 5-gallon jerry can on the two wheeled cart.

I bought a funnel in Lowes in the lawn mower section. Think it is for filling oil, etc on lawn mower. Has a long flexible hose type neck. stick the hose in the fresh water fill and you can turn funnel opening at at angle that you can pour into easily.
