We have a Champion 4000W/3000W generator. I know its not the quietest around but where we use it no one is going to complain (Walmart PL and boon docking alone). It works great, easy to start, etc. It runs the A/C and micro (not at same time) but we just shut off the A/C during breakfast, lunch and dinner if we are using the micro. Just make sure you give 5 minutes for the compressor in the A/C time to bleed the pressure off before restarting.
I also have a 15K, Carrier Low Profile, but am currently using a Honda EV4010 RV generator that I put in my truck. It is 213 lbs. however. We planned on installing it in the TT permanently, but keep going back and forth on the 2000 + companion. What temps are you running your 15K in? I see you are in Texas. I am in Arizona and need it to run in 110* heat a couple weekends a year.
I have read online that people have paralleled different sizes of genny's. I was thinking a 3K and a 2K if that really is no issue. As for the Freq match, I'm sure that is a non issue, but they would possibly be unevenly loaded. I like the Idea of having the 2K when I only need that, the 3K when I only need that, and the total of 5K if It is really freaking hot. - aluminum_flyerExplorerWe have a Champion 4000W/3000W generator. - johndeerefarmerExplorer IIII started out with the Yamaha 4500W inverter but it weighs 200 lbs. Had to use the tractor and front end loader to get it loaded into the back of the truck. If I wanted to go somewhere in the truck then I couldn't leave the genny running to cool the trailer. I would have had to carry a ramp and comealong to load and unload it. So I bought the Honda EU2000i, it's companion and parallel kit. I can cool my trailer (15K btu) A/C) and run the water heater at the same time.
I can run the a/c by itself with the genny on econo mode. - AtleeExplorer III have two Honda EU2000i. Parelled, they run the AC just fine. If I don't need AC, I just run one.
I've had one of the Honda's for quite sometime. When I went from the Class B, with built in Onan, to the travel trailer, I needed more power to run the TT AC. So I bought the Honda EU2000i Companion. The companion has a 30amp plug built in, rather than 2 20 amp plugs.mtnman1989 wrote:
What size generator do you use with your travel trailer to run your microwave or AC? I am talking about running one at a time, not both on at once.
Thanks!
mtnman - phishheadmiExplorer IIMy Honda eu1000i will run everything EXCEPT the a/c and micro. It's a great little generator...super light and portable, and whisper quiet. At home, it powers my fridge a light or two and a 40" TV and DVD player all together. Got through a few day power outage a while back by alternating fridge and chest freezer and even kept the kids occupied...was it ideal, no, but it worked.
- MartyG2ExplorerThe book says one propane tank will last 10 hrs at 1/2 load (1/2 3500 = 1750 Watts) The larger propane models run less time on a tank. Taking it on vacation, combination of parks and boonies, so I'll have more to report in July.
Here's a link to where I bought mine: Propane generator - jaycocreekExplorer IIHow much propane does a propane generator use?
Never had or been around one. - MartyG2ExplorerWe've got a Champion 3500 Propane. It seems more quiet than a gas model, propane doesn't sludge up the carb during non-use, and it has a TT-30 RV outlet.
- jaycocreekExplorer IIThe Champion 3100 runs at 65db with full load, I've read. Don't know if it's true or not but I do know it doesn't run at 58db with a full load.
- canoe_on_topExplorerI have a Yamaha 2400. It will run my 13.5 A/C if everything else is off. I got it because I didn't want to lift a 3000.
