That's how most insurance companies work these days. Offer a low rate to get your business and then raise your rates every 6 months. They all do it. So every 6 months to a year you have to shop around for another company that'll offer a lower rate.
Farmers has never done that to me. I've been with them for probably 15+ years - same agent.
I have this insured with them:
House
Motorcycle
Truck
Subaru
AF truck camper
Nash TT
Big giant cargo trailer- GrandpaKipExplorer IIEverything we have is with USAA. Between the credit card rebate and insurance rebate, we actually get enough back to almost pay 1/2 of our auto policy.
Our homeowner’s insurance has increased less than inflation over the last 30 years.
We never even think of shopping around. - Mr_NExplorerNext time you are at a repair shop ask them about insurance, which companies are easy for them to work with and others not so much.
It might influence who you go with for your stuff. - Bears_DenExplorerThe same company that insures my cars, insures my TT. In fact my rates have decreased a bit.
- pbeverlyNomadWhen we bought our camper they pushed HARD for us to get the insurance thru Good Sams. Got stuck in a conference call with an guy. We ended up doing our insurance with our agent for home/auto and everything else, far better deal.
Actually, the insurance push was the only thing they really irritated us when we bought the camper. We were not prepared for that and getting full court press from some agent on the phone while our salesman disappeared.
We paid cash which really helped since we didn't have the go thru all the financing ****. - aftermathExplorer IIIIt is always a good idea to shop around and people should do it regularly. I don't buy into the notion that insurance companies are out to get you as some people have stated. As a business model this would lead to massive failure with people leaving all the time.
Keep in mind that your insurance company insures people all over the US and most of them do home, car and RV packages. When Katrina hit there were billions of dollars in damage. Insurance companies had to step up and pay. It wasn't long before another huge storm came along and insurance premiums started to rise. In just the last few years we have seen massive damage and a matching massive pay out by insurance companies. I will bet that the company you are using has been paying out lots of claims even though you were not one of them.
My agent explained the effect on all of these storms on the market and suggested that I indeed look around for a better deal. You might find one, but my guess is that one will go up sooner than later as well. Some find some kind of strange solace in being a victim of a crooked insurance agent. If that is you, do drop that company and get a better deal. I am pretty sure you can find one. Don't be surprised if this new deal will lose its luster too. - rbpruExplorer III have had good service from Progressive. They are not the cheapest but they had the coverage we wanted.
- BubbaChrisExplorerMy AAA agent sold me a Progressive RV package - It's stayed much lower than the initial Good Sam rate I was quoted.
Best regards,
Chris - George3037ExplorerThis is the second query on trailer insurance that I've seen.
I just paid mine and it was the same premium as last year for a 2010 TT with full coverage including damage or replacement. No road assitance coverage. - KitchenpanExplorerA lot of insurance companies will cover a travel trailer through your home insurance. Much cheaper that way.
