Travel Trailer Insurance

Thanks for posting all this great info re: TT insurance. I'll be storing my TT off my property (no room plus no personal property taxes) so I want separate insurance for it. I'll be sure to check out Good Sam. My auto insurance is GEICO so I'll be sure to really check that out thoroughly.

We shopped around for insurance and you pretty much got what you paid for.

However, if the trailer was totaled in an accident, only one of the companies would pay the purchase price rather than the current market value. That was Progressive.

Since we were new to RV towing, we figured purchase value insurance was a good idea for the first year or so. :W

In our case adding it to our home/car insurance was by far the cheapest option, but not surprisingly, it also provided the least coverage and higher deductible. In a few years we will probably switch to the cheaper insurance but now we are still in the learning stage.

I have a separate policy on my TT with Progressive. Collision and Comprehensive, $500 ded. I also pay a couple $extra for an agreed upon amount in the event of a total loss. The agreed amount is $25k for total loss regardless of age of my TT, no depreciation on the TT.

Mine is through liberty mutual.
I'm showing on the 2012 Kodiak 300bhsl
comprehensive, no deductible at 111.00 per year
collision is a $50.00 deductible and 150.00 per year
So 261 per year.

Comp covers, fire, theft, hail damage, animal collision damage, a tree falling on it, basically anything. 100% replacement as well as contents up to a specific amount. I don't see that amount right now.

Collision means if I drag the trailer into a tree or anything else. Now the collision premium $150.00 per year can be lower if you raise the deductible. But why?

Anyhow, as others have said, you technically will have dual coverage if it is attached to your tow vehicle or sitting on your property. HOWEVER, if it becomes detached while towing and hits something or someone, then that is the loop hole, as well as if a tree falls on it while camping or it catches on fire.
Plus as you can see, the deductible is very cheap for collision and nothing for comprehensive.

^^^ clarification -- Auto Comp doesn't apply to trailers unhitched if that is what you are reffering too, unless you have the trailer listed a separately insured item -- this a RV specific policy

Correct. However my focus is more about liability. I can easily replace 100% of my TT should damage occur without involving insurance. I wouldn't want to but I could. However not so sure I could withstand a major law suit should someone get hurt/Molex on or arround my TT without insurance.

Sort of related story ... As a kid, on our sail boat, we where on anchor jumping from the boat and swimming. A young girl was with us, standing on the boat holding the railing when another kid pushed her in the water. Somehow she had her pinky finger tangled in the railing and cable. She lost her finger when pushed, and had several surgeries to repair other damage to her hand. In the end that finger cost more than 5 sailboats -- thankfully we had sufficient liability coverage.

W e pay 300.00 a year for complete coverage on out travel trailer, flooding, theft, and all our contents. You name it, it is covered including 1000.00 of after market equipment that is installed on the trailer. We had Allstate but the coverage was not as good. I would shot around for the best coverage for the best price.
