Just thinking outside the box here. My 2000 burb with 200,000 miles is not getting any younger, so was wondering if I rented a 2015 Yukon xl or sub and hooked up trailer and go. Is this allowed when you rent ?? is it a fortune ?? how about 12 pass chevy van with tow package ?? just looking for some insight. I do believe in my truck, just don't want to tax her too bad.

Brake controller? Hitch? Are only two of many questions. After renting hundreds of vehicles over the years I think the dont ask, dont tell theory might apply unless you have a mechanical failure or accident. Then there could be problems.

I don't know about all of the rental companies, but since the liability insurance on the towed unit is covered by the liability insurance on the truck, most will not allow towing with a rental. Too much of a risk for the rental company.

I thought I remember hearing on here some that had rented a crew cab diesel to tow with . I am hopimg to rent a 2015 Yukon xl with 6.2 and tow away !!

Haven't seen a standard rental place, Hertz, Avis, etc that allows towing with their vehicles. Doesn't mean I haven't used them as a TV a couple times before!If you want to be legit, see about renting a truck from an equipment rental place like United, hertz, sunbelt. Most will only have pickups though, not vans or burbs.

I don't think you will find an SUV anywhere for rent that allows towing.

The commercial towing outfits (Herz equipment, Enterprise Rent a Truck, Penske etc) have pickups and sometimes vans.

Most Ford dealers allow towing with their vans. http://www.bandago.com also allows towing.

Looks like this is not a possibility. Just thought I would try. My old burb will be ready to work. Have money set aside for unexpected surprises. Thanks for your thoughts

Don't know about towing with it, but at Hertz in Chicago, a Yukon XL rents for $2350(out the door) a week! I just bragged to my DW what a bargain our Burb was to buy. :)

I rent about every week from National. I know their policy states they do not allow towing, but their Suburbans are all equiped with a hitch.

Another downside to renting something like this is cost. As mentioned above, the times I specifically requested a luxury SUV (that is what National calls Suburbans), it was over $250/day.
