TT, 2nd a/c prep/ wiring from factory

My question is this: if your TT is prepped for a second a/c and you then add it later... Will that be connected to the ceiling ducts or just blow out of the unit? Given the fact that the main a/c was always connected to all the ducts.

I am contemplating ordering 2 a/c's, but don't want to be worried about always finding 50 amp campgrounds. If I add later, I should always have air going in the bedroom with the one unit and be able to stay on a 30 amp without cooling issues. then, if I am staying where 50 amps are available, I can use both. (Keeping in mind we have the kids in the bunk house and always need a/c throughout, we would not use 1 or the other)

There is another way to do this installing the second 9000 to 11000 BTU air conditioner on the roof or adding a stand alone 8000 portable AC unit near the window if you have the room. Have these wired to a 20AMP receptacle on the outside of the trailer and hook-up to the camp ground provided 20AMP service.

This second A/C unit would be easier to run from a single 2KW Honda type generator as well if nothing else was on wiring inside your trailer.

We use the camp ground 20-AMP SERVICE alot when we are at the electric camp grounds. Especially when we use our oil-filled heaters and all of the outside activity where 120VAC power is needed. The 20AMP Service form the camp ground has its own circuit breaker and doesn't pull from our 30AMP Service hookup.

Just a couple of other ideas for you....

  • Our main unit (15k) is ducted but the 2nd A/C we added (13.5k heat pump) to the master bedroom is not. I suspect your prep'd 2nd unit will be non-ducted.

Normally we just run the main ducted unit since it blows though out the camper. Only when it gets really hot do we run the 2nd A/C unit. Since your if Florida and your TT is 33' long you will probably need to run both units which probably means you will be seeking 50 amp service. When we are on 30 amp service we have to watch what we turn on. Main A/C, TV, hot water heater and microwave tends to trip the breaker on the post. Have not even tried running 2 A/C units.

You might look at changing some vents to the kind you can control flow through to balance out the air distribution. Our bunkhouse is at the rear near the main A/C unit so it tends to be the coldest. The master bedroom is furthest away so it tends to be warmer, hence the 2nd unit.
