TT Awning Replacement

Hello all. I am new to this forum, and plan on using it very actively for great information. I am glad to see that there is a very large group of people that use it regularly so I always know information will be current.

I have a question regarding my travel Trailer awning. I just received a 2003 Komfort 25TBS from my parents. They no longer found themselves using it, so they handed it down to my wife and I. It needed a little work. I replaced the tail lights, sealed up a couple areas on the exterior side walls and repaired the fridge myself. It still needs the roof sealed and painted, but living in Washington State it is hard to do right now. I need to wait for the weather to warm up.

But also living in Washington State, I a working awning is a MUST. The one that was on it was very weather damaged. I have already cut it away from the awning frame and have the frame still installed on the trailer. I contacted my local RV Service Shop and was quoted $350-$500 plus $125 an hour to install and to expect it be a 2 hour job. I am not worried about the install as I can do this myself. I am more curious about the price. To me, the price seems a little steep compared to fabrics I have found online.

What do you all think of that price quoted? Also, where is a good place to go to purchase fabric online? And, what is a standard type of fabric? I saw there are multiple types.

Thank you all!
  • I read that you are just replaceing the fabric. Just in case you need to do any thing with the springs, Be very careful they can be dangerous. Best wishes and enjoy your camper.
  • AWESOME Information everyone! This has really given me great options. Everything from high end to standard replacements. Thank you!
  • We have a 2007 Komfort 26BHS and I had to replace my awning material two years ago. I went with something very similar to the original vinyl that came with the trailer. On our Komfort trailer is a 19 ft , Awning_Brand: A&E Systems, Awning_Model: Dometic Sunchaser. I ordered it from http://www.shadepro.net/product/Replacement_Patio_Canopies/repfab_pv_standard.html at a price of $169 with free ship.

I also just watch a few youtube videos on safe replacement of the awning material and had my wife help me when needed.
  • Be careful about cheap fabric. Check out care free replacement fabrics. 15oz thick

Some places don't even state how thick and might be paper thin. Makes a difference.

    http://www.carefreeofcolorado.com/rv-products/fabric-hardware-colors.html#patioPremiumVinyl

    "Premium Vinyl Fabrics
Our premium vinyl awnings are made with a 15oz vinyl and are double-hemmed with long-lasting Gore Tenara thread. They are embedded with an antimicrobial agent to stand up against mildew. Built to last, these fabrics stand up to the light, weather and cleaners better than any other fabric and carry a 10-year warranty (see individual product warranty info for more detail). This 10-year warranty is for parts and freight, 1 year for labor."
  • We replaced ours with a fabric I got from Ebay. Wife and I did it ourselves in about two hours. I think the fabric was about $150 for a 14' awning. We watched some youtube videos to see how to do it. There are some tricks and there are springs but it was pretty easy. Your quote seems high but they do need to mark up to stay open.

The price sounds about right. Its a robust plastic like material. I also suspect even just the fabric to be difficult to ship.
