- bradykExplorerWebsite says 882 lbs hitch wt dry. Add your water, dishes, clothes and other junk and I would bet hitch weight is 1100 lbs or so. Add about 100lbs for the hitch, wife, kids, and whatever else you put in the back of your truck and sorry to say you will be over on your payload real easy on this one. Can you tow it sure you can. Will you be overweight on this unit, most likely by several hundred pounds in the real world of what we take camping and not the dream world.
- fil564ExplorerI have the 3008W and I get a little pull when I am being passed by a semi or large truck. That being said, I am only using an ez lift friction sway control and plan on upgrading the hitch this year. At some point down the line I will probably go to a 3/4 ton truck just for the additional payload and part of our planning for the future. The Tundra handle pulling it through the mountains of Pennsylvania and Virginia with no problem but in the end it is what you are comfortable with.
- fla-gypsyExplorerA wise decision IMO
- Ram_RooExplorerThanks for all the informative replies.
The numbers aren't giving me the warm feeling I now enjoy.
We do lots of long haul trailering, prairies, Rockies, continental divide, you get the picture...
Pulling the hybrid we now have gives me lots of flexibility with kayaks, generators and just the ease of parking it where a 35 footer will be tighter.
I'll upgrade the TV before I buy into a trailer this size. Which I eventually will.
Just not ready to give up my Tundra right now.
Thanks again for the positive feedback.
Cheers - Ron3rdExplorer IIII tow the similar W3001 with my 2007 5.7. Tows great!
- spoon059Explorer IIOP, I own a Tundra and I love it. Its a great tow vehicle, but only within its specs. I get the feeling you will be over your payload limit with this trailer. You've been around for longer than me here. I assume you know payload and tongue weight and the difference between what is written in a pamphlet and what it actually is.
My gut tells me that your numbers won't work. I wouldn't recommend you try to tow it if the numbers (ALL the numbers) don't add up.
That being said, I ran into a guy last year at the lake pulling a 35+' bumper pull with his Tundra. He had no problems pulling it up to the mountains to the lake or back home from the mountains afterwards. He mentioned that he had an Equalizer hitch and had made sure to dial in the measurements and the truck and trailer were rock solid.
To answer your question... if you have a quality hitch and its properly set up you can probably make it a stable tow rig. Others will complain about your brakes... I don't really worry about it. Toyota and the federal gov't seem to think it can tow 10,000+ lbs. Your brakes don't care whether that is an RV with 15% hitch weight and lots of wind resistance or a flatbed with 10% hitch weight and no resistance.
Good luck. - APTExplorer

All the technical specs show that the tundra can technically haul this trailer
That combo is borderline. 7k dry TT is a lot for the most capable half tons. Dry TW says 882 pounds, which will likely be 1100 pounds. Verify your receiver can handle it as well as payload. What is your as equipped payload? You can locate this sticker on your driver's door. Note what you have where mine says 2051: - carringbExplorerSorry, the specs do not say its okay. The dry tongue weight is meaningless unless you are an RV hauler transporting new trailers. The dry weight doesn't even include batteries or propane. That trailer will exceed the GVWR of that truck, plain and simple.
- scbwrExplorer III pulled the Sunline with a Hensley hitch, and use an Equalizer with the Minnie. With both trailers, I've never had any trailer sway. We've done a couple of long trips with the Minnie and I haven't had any brake issues, but downshifting in the mountains is a must if you want to prevent overheating the brakes.

Payload is good. Rated between 1350 - 1590 lbs. with trailer tongue at 720 that leaves me about 600 lbs at the bottom end of the rating for a couple people, gas and a few things in the bed.
The real tongue weight will be much higher than 720 without a doubt and likely will hit 1k.
