Valve Stems on a Dually

I have a 2005 Ram Dually and am getting new tires so this might be a good time to address accessibility of the valve stems on a dually. What options are there so it is easy to check tire pressures and add air to the tires?

Yes, I had a set of those. They lasted about a year or so before they started leaking. Hope you have better luck with yours. 🙂

I used longer stems in mine and they work good with the right inflator head... straight on the end and angled on the back. I think I used 2" stems but a little longer, maybe 2 1/2" would be better just because it would be easier to see them and get the inflator on, on the outside wheel. Check with your tire shop to see if they have them. I had to find my own cuz the tire shop I used had the most worthless pack of idiots I ever saw but that was unbeknownst to me, at the time. Craig

I used Tire Man also. Don't use the flexible extensions (as others sometimes recommend) as they leak and sometimes break. Also, if you ever want to add a tire pressure monitoring system, you will need the steel valve stems like Tire Man. I have no affiliation with Tire Man other than being a customer.

Camp world sell extenders 2, 3 4 inches long. They also have the angled ones 45 and 90 Deg. I use the longer ones for my inners. I did use locktite to keep them from coming loose and in 5000 miles no issues.

I have alcoa alum wheels and they have small holes and barely big enough to get a chuck thru let on get to the stems themselves. I also bought a straight head chuck for my home compressor and an digital tire gauge as the offsets just wont work right. BTW I got the gauge at CW for around $30, pepboys has them for $25!

Using the proper angled head makes it a pretty easy job, even without the extensions. I have regular valve stems on my Dodge and it isn't too much of a problem.

I've had extensions and all three sets I had failed sooner or later. The longer/bent valve stems look to be a good solution.
