Video - F350 Super Duty 6.7L vs Ram & Silverado

Not sure if this is the right forum for this, but since we got to pull our TT's with something it seemed like the right place. This is an interesting video from Ford on their new 2015 F350 diesel vs the competition. Of course, since it's from Ford you expect it to show their product in a favorable light, still, it is what it is. Check it out:

Not sure about you..but I have owned a F250 6.0L and now have a 5.9L 2500 Ram...and each time it was with a 10000 pound trailer...I have never once race up a hill......what does that prove....nothing, like said earlier...apples to oranges. Ratios make a huge difference......

You should have said; "It is what it isn't"
At this point this can be considered a "concept" vehicle.
It is NOT in production, and Ford won't say what the power level was for this test.

It is very easy to up performance in a non production vehicle. Not so easy for production ones that need a warranty.

Basically they put a high performance chip in it to make good showing.
Since they won't say what the power level is, they are asking the public (Ford fans are automatically believers) to believe that the power that this test truck demonstrated is what the production models will have.

This is the most laughable thing I have seen to date out of a automaker.

I bought a 2012 Ram 3500 SRW last year and love it. I went with the Ram because I liked how it looked and it was simply the only heavy duty truck with a big cab I could afford. I came from a Nissan 1/2 ton Titan and I'm amazed by how nice the interior is on this truck compared with the Nissan. I have always owned Japanese cars (Honda and Toyota) just because of the belief that they lasted forever but that's just the same mentality as the guy who says you will need the heated tailgate option for the Ford.

I don't think you could go wrong with any of the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks currently out on the market, so test drive them all and buy what you prefer. Take these videos with a grain of salt and do your own research. After all it is your money.

BTW this topic is best suited for the "Tow Vehicle" subforum.

Thanks 352 for the link.

JohnnyT, I saw that difference in the gear ratios. While it may give the Ford the advantage in these "contests", I wonder what it does to the fuel mileage, engine noise and fatigue factor when on mostly level road. I remember my dad dropping the gear ratio on his mid 80's F250 to 4:10, and it ended up limiting the top end to about 70 mph max. The 6.9 liter diesel in that truck would just run up against the governor, and so that's where we'd run it, hours at a time up against the governor. That wasn't the best situation. An over/under drive auxillary trans would've been better to allow a low range for pulling and a high range for flat hauling.

Re: who cares about 21 seconds faster up a hill? I agree it sounds a bit childish, but having driven a truck for a number of years as well as pulled a TT, I know that there is a lot of competition among guys with their rigs, and getting out pulled up a hill like that gives the guy that does it a lot of ammo for needling his buddies, or group of buddies, that he out-pulled; and you know that goes on all the time. So yeah, I think this can have a huge effect on the buying public. The guys that are in that market care a lot about having the best pulling power, about being the fastest to the top of the hill. That means a lot to a large percentage of the tow vehicle market.

That's not really my story, I mean look at my rig. I pull a 17' TT with a Ford Escape. I'm not the fastest up ANY hill, but I'm usually not the slowest either. My wife and I downsized to this rig and we're very happy with it. Though we've recently replaced the 2008 Escape with a 2013 model.

They all make great trucks. After I determine which model suits my needs, then I just decide on looks after that. Currently I have a Sierra, but I like the look of the Ford, I'm just not big on the RAM right now (and that is only because there are just so many of them around here)

I almost never see a Tundra up here in Cottage country, lots of them in the city. Ford is a little rare up this way too, we seem to have mostly RAMs.

If anyone is influenced by this type of advertising by any of the 3 truck makers (yes 3, sorry Toyota guys) they are very shallow and gullible and salesman love a chump like that. Just an observation, I love Ford trucks and will buy them because they serve me the best (have owned all 3) and no advertising ever trumps my experience with a product. Also Ram and Silverado/Sierra guys always seem to carry the biggest chip on their shoulder. Not sure why that is unless it is just an attempt to take a swing at the sales leader.

Thats funny. I have owned a Silverado, a Ram, an F150 and an F-250. They all have their pluses and minuses, but I never had to push one of them. And,,, if I did I would just call the triple A guy and wait for a ride, then bring that truck to the dealer for a new one.

2001 Silverado, traded for a 2007 F-150 Harley/ traded for a 2011 Dodge Ram Laramie Longhorn/traded for an 2013 F-250 Lariat

Every time I see one of these videos come out, by any of the Big 3, I just laugh. Any of the 3 can produce a video showing their truck winning some contest. They are fun to watch, but like westend said, I wouldn't make a buying decision over a video like that, if I were in the market.

I still watch the videos, though. Good entertainment.
