wall studs
Does anyone know of the most common or "standard" type of wall stud for an early 90s prowler? I am opening up a wall this weekend and would like to get some materials before hand. no way they are 2x4 framed like a house?

- Thanks guys. I dug out the riping guide for the table saw. just going to buy 2x4s and make what I need.
- The exterior wall studs may not be dimensional lumber,i.e. 2x2, 1x3, etc. I have never found a 2x4 used as a stud in an RV. Even my old Starcraft, built when material was cheap, has studs that are 1 3/4"D x 1"T. Some of the window and door headers used a 2x4. My floor joists are 2x2 with an occasional 2x4 used for additional support.
- Exterior walls usually 2x2 but actual size could be as small as 1-1/2 x 1-1/2
Interior walls could be 2x2 but could also be a mix of 1x2, 1x3 and even 1x4. SidecarFlip wrote:

Dimensionally, a 2x2 is really 1 3/4 x 1 3/4. That ain't much.
May not be much, but that is most early trailers were built of! I rebuilt the back of our 1986 King of the Road 28' 5er. The wall studs were 2X2's. I took hand selected KD 2X4 studs and ripped into 2X2's.

Dimensionally, a 2x2 is really 1 3/4 x 1 3/4. That ain't much.- Take off the inside trim around a window. May give you some insight.
