Water heaters

We have had a Girand tankless for a year, now,it's only worked about 30% to 50% of the time. It came with the ECO package. Luckly we came from PUP, so I haven't been hearing constant complaints from the DW. We dry camp about 90% of the time,so even when it works, water usage is a problem. The grey tank is only 40gal. What's the best quality units. IT's a 20' Creekside, so I guess 6gal? THX
  • At dealership when she did the walk through, when it came to the water heater, she just rolled her eyes. This spring,my wife asked them if there was a trick, they said maybe increasing the pressure. My wife told them I was about to change it out, the tech replied that was a good idea. They wanted over $1000,$550 for the unit, on line $325 with door.

Doing a long search, I read that if there is any air in the system, turning the cold would turn it on. For us it would also then shut down. Same for the hot.
  • I recently replaced my Girard Tankless unit with an Atwood 6gallon water heater. I think you may have been lucky to get 30% use out of a Tankless water heater - total garbage in my mind. New Atwood works like a charm. Was installed without any modifications to camper - with one exeption... the Atwood exterior cover is different than the Girard cover, so I had to get the new white cover painted. This was an expensive swap... but I now enjoy camping again. Best of luck to those who decide to keep these Girard (or other) units. My RV is a 2013 Jayco Melbourne and I received absolutely no satisfaction from them either when I shared my complaints about the Girard product. These are cheaper water heaters than Suburban or Atwood, so you get what you pay for. Jayco and other companies are trying to sell these as an upgrade, which is really kind of silly if you price them out.
