Water pump question -need help

Hoping you can help me figure this out. Today while packing for our camping trip I turned the water pump on to use water out of the fresh water tank. Faucets worked fine, no issues but when I went outside I noticed a steady stream of water coming out of the city water connection. The pump will cycle off for a very short period of time but then restarts even though all the faucets are off. Any ideas of what's going on?

BTW, if I turn the pump off the stream of water from the city connection stops.
  • it is the small white check valve on the city water intake. like just said. with no pump on ,take screen off and wiggle the inside guts and it may work . sometimes it resets the oring inside. if you google the city water check valve you may get an answer..... did you winterize the trailer and forget to do this part? or did you try to push it in when winterizing with the pump on?sometimes it messes up if you try to push it in with to much pressure.
  • Mine broke when I loosened the cap with the pump on. I couldn't get it to work - looks very complicated in there with some plastic piece loose. I put some Teflon tape on the threads and put the cap back on. Four years ago. I never use the city water connection so I have no need to replace the thing. If I did, I would look for a separate, less fragile checkvalve to put in the line.
  • I took the crummy little check valve out and put on a fitting with a shut-off valve. Problem solved.

Yep....cheap plastic plunger/spring/o-ring check valve assembly.

You can try resetting it (water off/pressure relieved first) by pushing in on plunger.

You can buy a new city water connection assembly and replace the whole unit.

You can get a 3/4" PVC plug and screw it into city water connection to stop the leak.

You can install a garden hose shutoff valve on city water connection

I installed a 90* elbow first and then a shutoff valve on both city water connection and black tank flush connection 7 yrs. ago.
I just leave 90* elbow and valve on all the time
  • I knew I would get the answer here. Thanks for the help. Will pick up the parts today.
