Weatherstripping for outside compartment doors

Trailer is a Keystone 2300BH.

I have one door that part of the weatherstripping is peeling off, and i'm not 100% sold on how well it seals to begin with. I've never seen or felt water in there, but I think it needs to be replaced so I can be sure about it.

It was stuck on ok until I started cleaning this past weekend...I knocked into it and a small section loosened...so i'm feeling replacing the whole thing.

I know you can buy this stuff at any rv place, and probably any of lowes, home depot, walmart maybe?

Anyways, I'm looked for specifics. Maybe someone found something better than the stock stuff they put on these doors? Or tried something else and it didn't work as well?

My plan is to replace it before this weekend, climb inside the area with a flashlight while someone sprays water on it so I can verify its sealed. Need to do it soon, because its unpacked and first trip is this weekend. And its clean in there right now lol.

I bought mine at wal mart. The stuff at the RV places is exorbitant and its often the same. Even for a relatively small door you need a lot of linear feet of the stuff. If it's too wide I put it on and use a knife to trim it. I would really like to find some of the really good car door seals to use but they too are way too much money.

The hard part and most time consuming is removing the old stuff completely so the new will stick.

    Good Luck.

BTW My older brother lives in Shelby MI.
  • Your might be different than mine but mine fits over the lip and attaches that way. Easy to take off and put back on if needed. If it is coming apart look to see if glue would work. As for testing it, if you turn the light on or put a flashlight in there at night and close the door you will see where potential leaks will be. Also I sprayed mine but did not have to go inside, not that I would fit, but I just looked from the other side of the trailer. Once you open the door you will see if it leaked and from where. Good luck.
  • Thanks for the replys!

GaryWT, I actually think yours is a better design. Do you think you could snap a photo and send it to me? This is actually the type of info I am looking for. Mine is just double sided taped to the "channel", so when the door shuts, it "smashes" into it, forming the seal.

Yours sounds like it "clips" onto the edge or lip, with the sealing part that gets "smashed" running in the channel, and sounds like a better design overall. I know I questioned this seal when we bought the trailer, but hadn't had any issues so it was never a worry...up until I knocked it off the tape that was holding it on.
  • I just used closed cell foam stick on the same thickness as original. Probably from Lowes. Does the job.

Does this go around the corners ok? Like does it make "turns" easy?

I did the same thing and it's been fine on ours. It made the turns just fine.

    No problems with turns.
