What does it weigh

Good morning
Need some info on a 1977 pickup camper equipped with bathroom do not know the brand or model. There is a ad here where the guy wants to give it away the pics. Of it look good less back window broken. It has two jacks one on each side the old style that are not attached. My problem is the guy don't think it will lift high enough to put in my F250 and the pickup is a short box with no tie downs. I do have a 4x8 utility single axle trailer but don't know the weight of the camper. It is a ways away and I want to be prepared when I pick it up. Thank you
  • From viewing the pics it appears that there may be a name next to the door on the left...However I also noticed where it appears that somebody hacked a hole into the rear wall for a household AC and it looks to be open to the weather, Red Flag, also with the rear window busted out that would also be a Red Flag. IMO I would seriously consider walking away from this deal, too many questions that are popping up as well as red flags, and wait for something else.

    Good Luck
  • What type of utility trailer do you have? As mentioned, most 4x8 trailers with the small wheels won't carry much. With a good 5x8 trailer capable of 3,000#, you would be good to go.

That kind of looks like a home made camper. Back in the 70s kits for them were common. Regardless, it depends on the options as to it's weight. But worst case, I would figure about 3,000#. That is what our 1970 11' Franklin weighed which was a bit bigger.

The two jack style campers are very scary to load since they are balanced when on the jacks.

Another issue you will probably run into with the Ford is the higher cab unless it's the older style with the lower cab.

As far as getting it high enough to go in the truck, you could place some wood blocks under the jacks before taking the weight off since it is on the pallets. But only try this if you KNOW what you are doing.

Unless you are looking for an old relic to restore and preserve, probably not worth it.
  • I would be thinking that he wants someone to haul it off so he doesn't have to take it to the dump himself (or pay someone to take it there) then pay the fee at the dump.

If it is really worth anything at all, then why free?

My own feelings, possibly incorrect- just suspicious.
  • The ad (Clicky) says $0. but then it says "make offer" in the description, so maybe it's not free. I guess you talked to the guy, so it's FREE:)

And, for what it's worth, a 36 year old camper will not be worth the money you put into it......but it will probably make a nice little hobby that you can sink money into, if you want that sort of thing.

I wouldn't trust the utility trailer.....they are good for about 1000 pounds....maybe more for a short trip....basically just the lawn tractor or some ATVs.

If it will fit in the short bed (with gate down), that would probably be the way I'd go. Get a piece of angle iron and 2x4s with eye bolts from HD, and some cargo straps, and strap it into the back of the truck....and drive home carefully.:)
  • Is cab over 10 foot long without cab over the party that has it doesn't know the brand there is a pic at www.bismanonline.com then search pickup camper it is the free one.
  • Respectfully, your question is kinda like asking how much does a pickup weigh. There are so many variations, compact half ton to a 450 or 550 DSL.

Photos would help, the size of the TC would help, measuring from the lower front of the TC to the extreme back. Do not include the Cabover, but do post if it does or does not have one.
